    Hello.
I have an ipod classic 120GB. My ITunes software and the ipod software are totally up to date. For the last 3 months now its been randomly skipping tracks. This is the second Ipod ive owned where this has happened. It is just over 1 year old and has recieved no shocks or water damage, like my other one. Is this just an ipod flaw? The tracks it skips work perfectly through itunes player aswell as windows media player. There does not seem to be any pattern to the skipping either.

    Anyone?

Silly question I'm sure but do you have shuffle turned on?

    No :P

Shuffle would play tracks at random, this is a problem that a track can play for any length of time and then skip onto the next. Sometimes it happens after 5 second, sometimes after 3 mins. Theres no pattern to it.

Does the "jog device" feature only work on shuffle mode? It it might be actually moving the track on...

Try resetting it, I think it is to hold down the middle button and the menu button? google it if you arent sure

Sorry - it's called "shake to shuffle" - and shuffles the track when the device is shook. Anyway there isn't shake to forward track option so can't be your problem!

    you could try defragging
    basic windows instructions here
    http://www.wikihow.com/Defragment-an-iPod

or there are repair utilities to do same , cant remember name but apple use some of them in their repair centres

or if your music is safely in Itunes , wipe the Ipod and let it re sync the music , this will format the Ipod anyway

try and keep the encoding type consistent also across tracks ,

check that the track (one that skip ) i ok in Itunes itself also
