Doing a spot of last minute shopping this morning. I had to pick up a couple of things for my da to give to my ma (he isn't able to get out much so I'm helping him with his Christmas Shopping - but that's beside the point). He asked me to pick up a card "to my wife" - and I had looked in a few places without success.

I finally saw some in the card shop on the Gr. Fl. of Stephen's Green S.C. so I picked one up and brought it to the till. In fairness the prices were displayed but I hadn't noticed... Anyway, the card was €9.20!!!!! It didn't even register with me how much of a rip off that was until I had walked away.

I didn't go back and ask for a refund etc. as I couldn't leave the aul fella without a card for me mammy! but then later on, I went into a supermarket on the way home; there was a stand inside the door saying "All cards €2" !!!! AGGGHHH!!!! - Felt Sick!

    Cards are like fashion.

You can get a t-shirt for €2 and you can get a T-shirt for €50.

At €9.20, the card is probably hand made, has some extra pieces added to it and is probably a short print run.

At €2, the card is a standard print, probably printed in china and printed in the thousands. - Still does the job though.

As a card retailer myself, I cannot justify a €9.20 price and simply wouldn't stock a card with that retail price. Perfectly good cards should sell for no more than €3.50 and most should be about €2 - €2.50.

A mate of mine once got a Valentines card in there for €13.00. You should have seen his face drop when she asked for that at the till.

He still wouldnt put it back though, I know I would have!
