As per title I saw one of these a few days ago on the N11.

Assuming it was a private ambulance and the lights don't officially entitle them to do anything in regards to right of way or break the spped limits?

Can anyone clarify what else it may have been?

I do know one of the Fire Service Vehicles (Not a Wicklow one i think) that is up around Bray for training courses in Bray Fire Station has one red and one blue light on the lightbar. Its a 4x4 of some description if I remember correctly, is this the one your referring to?

I saw a Garda Traffic Car on the N11 this morning (just before Jack Whites - Southbound), had a van pulled in. Blue and red light flashing on top of the car

BTW Why were you assuming it was a private ambulance?

what markings (if any) were on the vehicle and what kind of vehicle was it?

Thats the norm for Traffic Corps units, EU regulations might come into it if I remember correctly.

Yep most of the TC cars in Dublin that I see around have red LEDs rear facing only. Handy to know which way the thing is pointed :P

Sorry, kinda forgot about this. Didn't get that good a look at it, mainly noticed the lights in traffic.

It was white and boxy which is why I'm assuming private ambulance and the light bar was all red, no other colours. Around Stillorgan

Also assuming private ambulance as mainly are white vans with colouring down the side but usually have green light bars.

Some river units (possibly sea rescue also) use red lights on their vehicles. Its just to have some visibility and attract attention when responding to a call.

Was it an all red lightbar? Were there markings on the vehicle at all? Was it an ordinary car?

If there were no markings im sure NGA will point out the wrong doing in this but to cut it all short...not allowed.

In point of fact, all Red flashing lights are currently illegal within Irish legislation. Regardless of markings....red is totally illegal. So is flashing white, green etc.

EU regulations made AGS put red flashers on the rear of T/C vehicles for motorway use. Same with the battenburg. These red lights are techinicaly illegal in irish legislation. Same with red on front of some fire appliances and white flashers on the light bar of HSE NAS ambulances.

A total revamp of legislation is needed.
