Do you think family members should stay in contact with Ex Partners of their Sons or Daughters; especially after there has been a messy separation?

Similar situation going on in my family so would love to hear any thoughts on this.

Some will and some won't it depends how long they were in each other's lives and what the motivations are for it.

My family were/are still in touch with my Ex Wife. My sisters in particular kept in touch and she even went on girly nights out weekends away. I mean they were friends for years (10+) before we seperated so I don't think it was unreasonable that because we (My Ex and I) split that they would have to.

It was awkward at first when I remarried as my new wife (and quite possible the Ex) did'nt feel comfortable on the rare occasion they were at the same function. My Ex moved on get a new Man and has gradually pulled back from my family and sisters but thats what would be expected when her circle of friends widened due to the new man.

I think you have to be sensible about these things and the old "If you play with them, then I'm not playing with you." kind of thing is a bit childish.

I would see it as a good thing that the spilt was ammicable enough (in your families eyes obviously not yours)that your family still want to talk to your ex.? Better that then them hunting them down with torches and pitchforks.

People should stay friend's if they where friend's beforehand unless there was something like physical abuse ,then you would have to decide yourself how bad it was.
Just some women do try and keep their ex partner away from their own kids(really sad) the reason is some women do the following, The hate they have for their ex is greater then the love they have for the children sad but true.
