Optical Benefit questions

I have some opticial benefit questions and what I can claim back against PRSI (or any other means!)

This month I had a glasses and contact lense eye test with specsavers. The optician is going to claim back the eye test and he also mentioned some day-to-day care allowance that I can claim back (I buy contact lenses from specsavers also). Does anyone know about this day-to-day care allowance and how much it is worth? I understand that the eye examination is worth 22.51.

In 2008 I bought glasses from specsavers for around 200 Euros - Can I back claim the amount, I believe it is 42.07 Euro? I have a stamped green 'opticial benefit claim form 01' from specsavers and was considering returning that to the department in Letterkenny with the receipt attached. Can I claim back this benefit? Would this be the correct method?

In 2005 I bought glasses from another optician - I did send off the opticial claim form at the time and received a white 'opticial benefit - letter of authorisation' in return. This is for a contribution of 35.36 Euro. I just rang the optician and they will not be able to claim PRSI before this year, but she thought I could send to the department in Letterkenny and see how I get on. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks for your help in advance!

You're not supposed to get things done (test/specs) before being authorised, so don't send back the receipt. The allowance, 42 odd euro is usually only every two years. Also, it's going out the window altogether with the new budget, so send your 01 form quick!
The allowance has to come from the optician themselves, the SW dept. in Letterkenny won't give you anything directly.
