    Hi,

I'm half thinking of buying a new car next year. Have an 04 Almera to trade in (no laughing) and I don't really like it.

Depending on finances/economy next year I will be looking at a Ford Focus type car.

Done a bit of researching on line and have come up with the following:

Ford Focus: Probably the best reviews but is a bit pricey and standard equipment is a bit mean requiring expensive additions.

Honda Jazz: Got great reviews, but I know nothing about this car and never even seen one on the road.

Renault Megane Hatchback. I like the look of this car and it has a great equipment list but reviews give it bad marks for driving/ride quality,

If you could offer any advice I'd appreciate it. Please do not suggest VW Golf as I just don't like that car (find it ugly) no matter how good people say it is.

Also, I'm not Jeremy Clarkson (never watch Top Gear) so I'm not worried about doing 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. More concerned about comfort, value for money etc.

    Thanks in advance.

The Jazz is not in the same class as the Focus and Megane (i.e. it's not the same size). The Honda 'equivalent' of the Focus or Megane would be the Civic, not the Jazz. The Jazz is a good enough car (the mother has one), but standard kit would also be a bit 'mean'.

The Jazz is not exactly cheap to buy either.

    Also consider

    Volvo C30
    Mazda 3

All available in various levels of spec and comfort to suit your budget.

I drove a Honda Jazz for a few years and have to say I loved it. Its true that its not in the same size bracket as the focus but the amount of space inside is unbelievable. Also the rear seats do clever folding tricks so you can store large objects in the back. The 1.4 engine has 90hp which is pretty decent for a car of this size. The gearchange is slick and the turning circle is also great.

Also its a honda so it should not give any hassle. The looks wont get the heart racing but if you are not bothered about that its a great car. I test drove the new Jazz that came out last year and while there were some improvements to the interior it felt heavier and less nimble than the previous model. Also a spare wheel was an option - you only get a can of foam as standard.
