Hey guys, first time poster in this here forum, and I have a query.

I own two laptops, one (the one im posting on) has pretty much nothing on, just the bare essentials such as FireFox and MSN, for good reason I don't download anything to it as I want to keep it smooth and quick. The second laptop contains every single bit of my music, but this music is also on my external hard drive for back up. The laptop I'm on contains Windows Media Center, which I've just set up to extend to my Xbox, the other one doesn't. Seeing as my music is on the hard drive, is there any way at all to be able to use Windows Media Center with the external hard drive and play the music off of my Xbox, without having to copy all the music to my better laptop?

tl;dr version: trying to bypass copying files to play on Xbox 360.

    Thanks to anyone that helps.

    (Mods, move if necessary)

I don't have a 360 but I can tell you how to get your music into media center.
    1) Attach the external drive.
    2) Run Windows Media Player
    3) Add the path to your music as a monitored folder. WMP should read in the music and list it. This may take a while if you have a lot of music.
    4) When finished reading, close WMP, and open Media Center. Your music should be there now.

Yeah you can just add that directory from the interface of music within xbox media center. You go right click which is the y button i think on the xbox controller and you'll see add music, obviously the ext. hdd needs to be attached. to laptop - you're obviously already networked as you're running media center from laptop through xbox.
You miught want to right click you ext. hdd and set the permissions and sharing first though.
