    and where was it left?

In mine my mum would usally leave a potato and a couple of vegetables, which were then served along with the rest of the xmas dinner, a matchbox car or two, and a small game or puzzle, and a few pic'n'mix sweets, all of which were to keep me entertained till i was allowed down stair to open the presents.

was usally left at the foot of the bed or on the door handle.

I never had a stocking, all our presents were too big to fit in a stupid sock

My stocking was stuck to the fireplace and Santa filled it with Lego and sweets.

Mine was also hung from the fireside and had an Action man toy inside with some fruit and chocolate bars .

Mine wasn't one of those jumbo red and white Christmas stockings, it was literally just one of my socks and would usually have scented stationery and glittery pencils etc in it.

Bizarrely our stockings in my family were just that, my mothers tights, cut into two! So easily stuffed and jammed packed with toys, a dynamo torch, scratch n sniff stickers, an orange for grounding, ET or Star Wars items, xylophone (still have it somewere) lots of bizzare knick knacks. It was the hightlight of our Christmasses back in ohhh 1979 diggedydoo.
    Anyone remember this http://www.samstoybox.com/toypics/ChutesAway.jpg

    A mandarin.

    Another mandarin.

    Socks.

    Another mandarin.

    A pencil.

    Another mandarin.

One magical year ... I got a small packet of those chocolate coins you got in pound shops. That was the best year ever! :D

we still put out our stockings and have our presents waiting for us in the sitting room... me and my sister are 21 and 17, ha! we get a few soapy things, chocolate coins, and other little pressies. Oh, and always a satsuma...without fail...

Is it an American thing?? It's not new anyway, I've had the same stocking since I was a baby!

I'm glad everyone else got Mandarins too. We used to just take them out and put them back in the fruit bowl!

It was always left on our beds. Good times! I think my mum would still do them if she could.

I usually got a few bars, little toy cars and a few euro coins put into mine(one year in the time of the pounds my da put a 20 pound note in my stocking and whatever way i took out the pressies i tore the money into pieces!coins were used from then on)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭moonflower

I wish I got a satsuma in mine, I love satsumas. Might have to hint at that this year...

We always (and we all still get stuff in our stockings) get a book, some chocolate and sometimes other little presents. Always left on the ends of our beds.

Mandarins/Satsumas in your stockings... let me ask you this... If it wasnt xmas would you eat it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭jigglywoo

One time Santa left an apple among other things in my stocking.

I was afraid to eat the apple because I thought it was magical.

Ha, ha, that's class! My sister wouldn't have her stocking on her bed cuz she was scared sh*tless of Santa.

I used to get an orange, chocolate coins, wee games and socks. Over the years the stockings got bigger and bigger, from a normal sock up to a giant red sack thing, and the fruit got bigger and bigger too, til we got watermelons in the bottom.

Once I got a cheque for 5,000!! That was amazin.

    Happy Christmas!

Ours used to be on the fireplace, with sweets & little small toys sometimes

I moved out but last week I told my mam she'd better get mine from the attic seeing as my younger sibling's ones were there

& When I spent Christmas in my boyf's parents, there was a stocking on the door, with a kinder egg :)

We have a stocking hanging off the fireplace just above where the piles of presents go.

It's always filled with an apple or orange (some weird tradition apparently), chocolate coins, sweets, and some little presents
