This `reality` tv show is causing quite a stir in the US, provoking a backlash from the Italian-American community, thus far three sponsors have pulled ads from the show (Dell pulled out today), advocate groups seem to dislike it's portrayal of Italian-Americans.

Now i haven't seen it, but heard and read the online blurb, TMZ seems to love reporting about it, has anyone seen it?....one episode where a girl gets punched in the face was pulled this week by MTV, dunno....i might give it a look, see what all the fuss is about.

    :)

The cast of this show makes the cast of "The Hills" seem smart and likable. I can smell the Axe body spray, vodka shots and silicone through the TV.

That said, I watched it last week and I couldn't look away (although I was cringing most of the time).

Do, and report back post haste. A poll might be needed also. :pac:

I'm still surprised Everybody loves Raymond didn't receive any backlash. That guy did more to put me off ever wanting to get to know an Italian-American than anyone has ever before.

    "narrr... arrrr.... but... ahhhh...garrrr...???... awww"

How high does it rate on the cringe factor?...if it gets over 8 it's "must see" car crash tv :-)

THIS is basically what we are talking about...except on Jersey Shore they all live together. (actually if you find the clip mildly entertaining/horrifying - especially if you make it to 'Jen' - you'll feel the same about "Jersey Shore")

Cringe-inducing highlights from "Jersey Shore" include:

    1. A guy sleeping with a roommate on camera, and then claiming in the barbershop the next day "I don't kiss and tell". He broke up with her the next night when she gave her phone number to another guy in a club while he was grinding on the dance floor with another girl. HE then expressed his disgust by storming around the house in a very small towel until their tearful reconciliation...45 minutes later. No, these people are not 15 year old high school students. :(

    2. A drunk girl in a short dress doing cartwheels through the middle of a club...while wearing a thong. She left with a guy, but couldn't find her way home, so ended up sleeping on the beach...with the guy whose name she never got right.

    3. Cartwheel girl getting punched in the face by a drunk guy who kept stealing her shots at the bar.

So I guess on the cringe meter it veers between a 4 = "oh my god these people are ****ing idiots...is she really wearing a trucker cap?" to 10+ = OH MY GOD, THEY ARE REALLY FIST-PUMPING IN A CIRCLE IN THE CLUB!!!

It might be funnier if you actually know people from New Jersey...

This show is so addictive, I caught a couple of episodes at the weekend and I'm hooked, can't wait for more!

Where on earth did they find people with such great upstanding morals and poise?

It's ratings are high for MTV, which i think will guarantee a second season. MTV love the controversy.

Amazing what a bit of controversy can do for a show?

MTV is well pleased i bet, think it guarantees a second season....that Snooki one is apparently gonna get her own show, not watched any of it....even for me (fan of The Hills) it's just too crass and car crash for me.

Second season, no surprise at all considering the S1 finale got 4.8 million, it's MTVs biggest show: http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/01/30/jersey-shore-renewed-for-second-season/40550

I had a feeling MTV might pull this one! "I’ve heard rumors the new season will be filmed in Charleston or Hilton Head, SC. That culture clash would be hilarious."

It's The Simple Life formula, move them to some hick town, could make for some good laughs!
