Planning to purchase a stand bag over Xmas. Could anyone reccommend one? Something as lightweight as possible

I've a Sun Mountain one that has easily lasted 10 years. It's light, well made, and has ample pockets.

I think the closest to mine is the Swift X......

They have great double straps too and the bag always feels quite light and balanced.

I certainly would buy another one.

I have a Ogio Grom. Great bag pockets in all the right places but it is a little too heavy. They do a lighter version called the Vapour light with is also a nice bag. I use my Grom when I trolley now and carry my Titleist stand bag.

I have a cheap Progen, bought it in the Proshop 75E but available in TK Maxx for ~45E. It's light but...when it's raining the straps act like a sponge and force the water through my wet gear. The constant friction between the straps and the wet gear top has removed the Teflon or silicon coating further allowing transmission of H20 to permeate through the wet gear top. This might also be a problem with other brands and a side effect of a stand bag.

Saw recent reviews which rated a ping bag highest with ogio and titleist up there too.

Dont buy a mizuno stand bad. Ive the twister 3 one. The only reason im keeping it is I play mizuno irons.

It has this "divide & slide" feature but its rubbish. All the clubs just cluster
at one end of the bag as all the dividers are at an angle. Stupid idea.

The rest of the bag is A+ though. Just I like my clubs nice & neat & this bag
    makes that very very difficult.

can a stand bag be put on a trolley? or would it just not fit right?

They can be put onto a trolley although the pockets can be in the wrong place so you may need to turn it around a bit to get the best position.

Hey Curly did they have many of these left. Sounds like a good deal alright.

They had 2 left when I collected mine. I rang to ask them to hold it for me. I m well pleased with it. I was going to buy from online golf but American Golfs price was better.

Got a nice Wilson one there a few months ago (Liffey Valley) for €50 I think, which was half price.

I got a sun mountain 3.5 from golfdirect.co.uk before xmas. Really quick delivery and a good price. Looks good and extra light. Unfortunatly I haven't got to use it yet because of this damn weather!

Was looking at them in the shop yesterday and the difference between all the bags was mostly the price. Ranged from 45e to 135. couldnt justify the most expensive one imo as less is more with these ebags.
Bought a titleist one for 100e myself and find it good.
I think the main thing to watch with the stand bags is not to put too much golf balls, rain gear and other accesories into them. The weight of these things really makes a huge difference. I have a box in the boot of the car for most of these things so i keep my bag as light as possible.
Stand bags are a must in the winter as sometimes the green is roped of from 20 yards in front and you can end up with tracks taking you in a weird route to your ball if you have a cart. Also loosing wedges is easy when your bag is not close to you around a green.

Anymore advice on a good stand bag?

I use a cart bag and trolly at moment, thinking of changing over just for the convience of being able to go where i want and not have to go the long way around because i'm pushing a trolly.

Would like something that is very light, what options have i?

Hey Big_Drive, I have the Ping Hoofer2 I bought in March which is excellent, but am buying a cart bag as well. I've had a Mizuno, which was ok but not a patch on the Ping quality wise. Might be selling the Ping if I manage to get a decent cart bag soon.

I have a Ping Latitude for a couple of years. Does the job and has plenty of pockets.

Sun Mountain are generally the king of stand bags IMHO. Not sure if they are sold anywhere in Ireland - haven't really seen them anywhere.

I've the Ping Hoofer C-1, pretty good bag imo.

    Quick and easy...

Deadly bag, 14 full length dividers.

Has anyone experience of the Sun Mountain 3.5 bag?

Is it noticably lighter than most others?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 877 ✭✭✭blackwaterfish

american golf stock OGIO stand bags... have one and its class. the arc-lite legs are great - the legs swing out in an inverted arc and miss youre leg when picking the bag up -something my previous stand bag didnt do and it drove me bikkies.

when youve picked whichever one you fancy try picking it up as you would on the course and if it hits youre shin youll have to stand funny to avoid that.

I'd recommend looking at reviews on sites so you can see what other golfers are using and their experiences. I've always used online golf for golf bags (http://www.onlinegolf.co.uk/golf-bags/golf-stand-bags/346og_sc.asp), and the mizuno twister 4 looks goood!!

they're all light but its when you load em up they get heavy
2lbs difference is like carrying a bag of sugar on your back no big deal there in the initial setup

when guys put in 30 balls,2l of water and a sandwich,an umbrella, sweater, raingear and windbreaker plus extra towel and daft carry on like that, its then the whole thing gets a bit silly in my opinion and i've seen it

more importantly get a bag with good support and straps as they're the ones easier to carry,no point in having a slightly lighter bag with straps cutting into your shoulder blades

I got a sunmountain sports one in JJB Sports a few years ago.
Now I use the cart bag for comps and a pencil type bag for practice.
It has legs that are about a foot long, handy for keeping it off the wet grass but still nice and light.
