My fiance and i have decided to get married in the Caribbean, most likely just the two of us, no guests. Any tips/advice/island and hotel recommendations? Thanks

Sounds fantastic. We are of the same mind, although fancied greece.
but ain't fussy, somewhere warm is all i care about.
Like you stuck on where to start.
However with the caribean there are a few places that help - trailfinders for starters have packages. May be a good starting point for you!?

    Hi Rumor,

Congrats, myself and the fiancee are planning the same for march 2011. We going to Dominican Republic. Havent booked anything yet but asked the people we wanted to travel last month and we finalise numbers then at the end of this month. At the moment its lookin like 5k for the 2 of us all inclusive for 2 weeks in 4star hotel with the basic wedding package and flights included.

1/ Decide your hard and soft financial limits first
2/ Do you want all inclusive (can be a poor choice if the resort has 5 restaurants and they are all just okayish)
3/ I strongly advise you to stick to a former Dutch colony like St. Croix and Tobago, then English colonies (like Antigua), then French colonies (like St Lucia), in that order.

Remember, there is also a hurricane season, which you better take seriously.
These places also have ultra high humidity and are seriously warm.
Also, the natives/locals don't like the visitors, despite the visitors accounting for 95% of GDP.
Also, are either of you sensitive to mossies?
There may also be visa issues.

I wish you the best of luck,
I think you are brave to make this decision and not to do the silly 2000 people in a manky Irish hotel thing.
But, for the sake of your family/friends, try to have a *blessing* back in a Dublin church, and then a nice meal with immediate family only. We made the mistake of inviting relatives we don't normally see, and made the mistake of shelling out for them to eat in a five star restaurant in Dublin. They literally attached the food, and made gluttons of themselves, didn't leave anything for us to eat. Never again.

We got married on the beach in Antigua, and had a great time.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Im getting excited about it now. I am so happy we have decided to go abroad. When we first got engaged, we just automatically booked hotel and church without even thinking "is this what we really want to do?".... Then one day it just dawned on us that it wasnt. We hardly ever go to church and we just cant justify spending so much money on feeding people a luke warm soup and dry, tasteless Beef or Salmon.:D

    Hey all,

Just wondering for those who have done the abroad wedding already in the Carribean who did ye book it through, and those others planning at the moment have ye spoken to any particular booking agent yet?

my friend got married in Feburary 2009 and 30 of us went to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic . we stayed in Dreams oh my god it was fab, the bride and groom went a week before every one , they had to be there 5days before they could get married and she had to top up her tan for the dress:D. Its such a beautiful place and they provided her with a wedding planner so if you contact the hotel they will set someone up for you. there is a beautiful area where they do the ceromony outside which looks like an alter really romantic. we flew with thompson from gatwich we saved so much they even but us up the night before in an airport hotel coz our flight was so early. hope this helps and enjoy :)
