    Hey folks,

Just stumbled upon this website last night

    www.bigthink.com

It's basically just a load of interviews with various people... academics, businesspeople, musicians, politicians...

It features lots about religion, and the interviews are fairly recent for the most part.

Unfortunately there's no Shermer or Hitchens yet :(

    But here's some choice ones...

    http://bigthink.com/stevenpinker
    http://bigthink.com/richarddawkins
    http://bigthink.com/danieldennett
    http://bigthink.com/stephenfry
    http://bigthink.com/samharris :)
    http://bigthink.com/maryrobinson
    http://bigthink.com/noamchomsky
    http://bigthink.com/neildegrassetyson

I'd say most people have seen bits of the Sam Harris interview on YouTube, but the rest don't seem to have bled onto there yet

Some of them are fairly recent -- Dawkins was only interviewed in October -- and the interviews are quite long and with unusual questions, unlike the silly questions you might expect on a TV show or, well, anything Ryan Tubridy presents. Dawkins is asked a good bit about his doctoral thesis and he goes into detail on it. Also asked if there's any projects he started but didn't finish, which prompts him to whistle like a cricket (give it a watch :p).

    Definitely worth a look :)

Just to add to that and I'm sure it's unecessary but you guys have publicised TED before?

    http://www.ted.com/

I have lost days.....In this final run up to holidays, it's taking the edge of my boredom...

    New interview with Sam Harris

    http://www.scpr.org/programs/patt-morrison/2010/02/12/sam-harris-picks-a-fight-with-god/

Also he was speaking at the most recent TED conference, so I'm sure that'll be online at some point :)

I just read and enjoyed an article about a famous person who is an atheist, though he's not really a "famous atheist": film critic Roger Ebert. After major cancer scares and many operations, he's frail and can no longer speak or eat. He's still incredibly upbeat and writing more than ever (not just about movies), but he's under no illusions that he has much time left.
There has been no death-row conversion. He has not found God. He has been beaten in some ways. But his other senses have picked up since he lost his sense of taste. He has tuned better into life. Some things aren't as important as they once were; some things are more important than ever. He has built for himself a new kind of universe. Roger Ebert is no mystic, but he knows things we don't know.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

―Oscar Wilde predicting Social Media, in The Picture of Dorian Gray

Didn't really think this warranted a new thread, but Dawkins on Q&A in Australia recently

    Nice one Dave!

Funny watching Dawkins squirming in his seat every time someone says something daft. Which was a lot.

Did I hear right - the Aussie PM is a creationist? Give me strength.
