What a difference a pickup makes...

Got a Epiphone Sheraton II a while back and was never happy with the stock pups so decided to change them out. Bought some Gibson 57 Classic's and never got around to putting them in until last week plus I know nothing about electronics (changed all the wiring also) so got a mate to do it for me and I helped out, which turned out to be like a game of operation only 100 times harder through the F hole.

The difference, after putting the new pickups in, is nothing short of incredible.
The sound from the guitar actually made me smile last night when I tested it out, classic Gibson tone straight away, lots of output and very punchy but a savage tone nonetheless.

Anyone thinking of buying these pups, you wont be disappointed...

New pickups are always awesome! The first upgrades I ever did was stock Ibanez to EMG and I couldn't get over the difference!

I currently have a Bare Knuckle waiting to go into my new guitar and I am itching to hear it! :D

I have a Bare Knuckle (Cold Sweat, I think) in the neck position of my Patrick Eggle Berlin and compared to the stock SD' 59, which is not too shabby either, the Bare Knuckle is just massive! Huge tone and sustain. I was messing the other night with a TC Elec's overdrive and a bit of delay and getting voilin like sustain. I'd recommend Bare Knuckle Pups to anyone but they do come at a price.

Agreed ...I have Bareknuckle PG blues in my 335 style Yammie and sweet sweet tone. The in between Peter Green honky nasal tone is there in spades.

Changing pickups is something I've done to every guitar I own, I always do it because it makes the guitar feel more like it's mine rather than just being off-the-shelf.

For anyone who's tired/bored of their guitar, changing pickup would be the first thing I would suggest they do - it can make a fundamental difference to the sound of the guitar and doesn't cost much (relative to a new guitar).

I have a BK Pain Killer, I heard some recording of it and they are monsters!

Nothing like making a guitar your own with some nice mods :)

All those recent Epiphone humbuckers are awful. Truly awful. A pup chance is the first thing to do with them guitars.

Big time, they are truly horrendous, they'd be better off shipping them with no pickups...

57 classics are great. I have them in my 335 and they just sing. I'd love to give them a whirl in my les paul but I'm afraid to take out my burst buckers because they sound so good. My mate has 57 classics in his sg and they're amazing in it.

Are they difficult to change yourself? I've used a soldering iron before but wouldn't be really skilled with it.

I have an Epiphone Standard LP, presume this would be easier than the Sheraton II?

Oh yeah as Jean Larrivee said
"building a great guitar is a no brainer, the hard part is getting the pickup right"

I havent found anything as good for an Acoustic guitar as Maton pickups they sound fantastic, can't leave my TE1 down when I play it!

AER pickups sound great too, the AK30 would be my number 2 choice

stick any pickup through a loud PA and it'll sound good, but if you get a great pickup, thats when you blow people away!

is there any point throwing a couple of these in my epi les paul? or should i just upgrade (a long while) down the line?

If you're happy with the Epi LP and enjoy playing it, then upgrading the pups should make a huge difference. You need to know what your after in regards to pickups as there are endless suppliers and you do get what you pay for!! A good set are expensive, but having said that I picked up a cheap set of GFS P90's and they are pretty good for the money.
