2010 Christmas #1

It doesn't take a genius to wok out that the x-factor versus internet choice Christmas number one race is probably going to become an annual event, so, with that in mind, I have a simple question:

What song would you most like to see go up against the x-factor wannabe next year?

    I'll open the bidding with:

    Cowell will love it....

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

They tried to do it with Rick Astley last year (same people as this year), but it failed to gain any traction.

    My prediction:
Lots of different groups will be pushing their own anti establishment song, letting X-Factor trounce them completely.

id like to see an actual Chrsitmas song do it for a change!

Maybe a cover of a classic. Frames doing White Chrsitmas? Come on Glenn, you know you can do it!

I will cut out and eat my own beating heart before I let Glen Hansard get the Christmas Number One spot.

And I don't even care about the Christmas number one! ;)

I'd like it to be a proper christmas song with references to the following

    -snow
    -christmas tree
-kissin' muh baybeh under the misletoe
    -presents
    -happiness
    -next year
    -Christmas cheer

Don't care how it's done, it can be written by a songwriter and sold on to a manager who'll find a singer, or it can be a group effort by a band, it's just gotta be christmassy, goddammit. I'd also only like it to be Christmas no. 1 because people actually like it, not just to spite X-factor as I think that's very grinchy behaviour and has no place being associated with Christmas.

    That's my Christmas wish :(

See my post about Glen Hansard above but insert Mark McCabe in Glen's place.

Well christmas is about Jesus dying because he was different, and killing in the name of is about how people can kill other people if they're different and it being ok, so RATM is the perfect christmas song

Christmas is about snow and presents and family and christmas trees and kissin' muh baybeh under the mistletoe, I see no references to any of the above in RATM's music.

In fairness, my powers of foresight seem to have left me today, so I have no idea who's gonna be No.1 by Christmas 2010.

That is a piece of surreal genius. What strikes me most about it is how difficult it would be to explain to Americans. "You did what why?"

Imagine the pain of next year's winner, when he discovers that he's going to be deprived - and then his sweaty palms when he realises that he may have an absurdly irrelevant Christmas number one in 2011, when he's already been back in Butlins for six months.

That is utterly wonderful. What could be cuter than a rap that starts "Bah humbug! No, that's too strong..."?

The Smiths - Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want
