Anyone hear Nicholls' on the sports programme on RTE radio this evening? He didn't say much, though told the interviewer that he hasn't really thought too much about the plans for his horses over Christmas and the New Year.... Hmmmm.... Not so sure about that, though looking forward to seeing his horses run over the Christmas period... What I'd give to have a string like that in my yard

Nicholls has got the reputation of being very open with the public, in that he has a high profile column in the racing post on Saturday, and always is patient with interviewers when they shove a microphone under his nose, but make no mistake, Nicholls knows who pays his bills and only puts out the information that he wants to. The owners get first call on his opinions. Its the way it works.

It's the way it should work, and is generally the process which is followed by an experienced and good trainer... Unfortunately I've come across some trainers who'll just make plans without discussing them with the owner first...

Its a pity he did'nt decide to keep his trap shut before the hennessy
when he was telling anyone who would listen to him that denman would be lucky to finish 4th.
