Smaller smaller smaller. Background overnight updating. Better browser. No need to keep changing discs for different games (install to HDD!).

Downloadable / streaming movies (like Sky on xbox).

    Cross platform multiplayer with Xbox.

Better Browser. There were rumours of Firefox no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,955 ✭✭✭rizzla

You can play PS1 games on all versions of the PS3. But I would like PS2 compatibility.

Oh man - wish I had thought of those.

    Allow background downloads of patches/updates!

There's nothing more annoying than having to watch that damn progress bar slowly creep up when you could be playing a different game/watching a video/browsing the store instead.

Imagine how great it would be if you could enable it to check through all of the games on your hard drive whenever you sign in - if it finds an out of date game, it just starts downloading the update in the background automagically...

"Ability to buy PSN games from other regions"
    You can do this already....

What do you mean by "Better designed remote" and "Decent handheld"

I just want to be able to play my PS2 games without digging out the PS2 and hooking it up.

Cross game chat and a dedicated Sony team to remake the PS2 classics with HD resolution, such as what they have done with GOW Collection.

That's coming in January. Already out in the UK and many other countries, it's just, as always, we're last

And the sky on xbox is not as great as you may think. If you already have sky, you still have to pay for it to be connected to the xbox, and if you already have sky then what is the point?

For me it would have to be the ability to install games onto the HDD and background downloading for patches and updates, drives me mad when my connection drops and I have to wait 30 minutes for it to go from 3-5%

Definitely could do with a better browser.

I chose Multi-Region DVD playback but realistically i meant multi region Bluray player. Some titles out there not available on Region B

+1, so frustrating to start a b/g download and play an offline game to pass the time only to check back in an hour and its not budged in the last 60 minutes.

And have the PS3 charge connected pads even if turned off but still plugged in and on standby, got so used to it on the X360.

The most annoying thing about the PS3 I find is the fact when your downloading a game/video etc. is when you into a game which has online features, it throws up the status of 'pending' of the download, and there is no way to resume only exit the game. Its should give the option/warning to continue the download.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Holsten

    Backwards with the ps1/2.

A much better controller would be nice.

Updates/patches need serious revision. Tiny files can take ridiculously long to download and then once downloaded have to be installed. On the 360 patches and updates take from a couple of seconds to a minute.

Now the only way to resolve that issue would be to construct a pad that could mould itself into the shape of your 2 hands, because everyone has a gripe with every pad. Many people here, myself included love the PS contoller, if Sony decided to redesign it this morning, the odds are while you may love the new design, i'll hate it. It's one of those issues that's better left alone.

(I'm one of those weirdos who gets a cramp using the 360 controlller :/)

All the PSN games should be available anywhere.

I have a 60g so the PS2 compatibility is not a problem but I have to say it baffles me why it's not on the later models.

And the controller needs proper triggers. In spite of what a lot of people say, the Xbox controller is not "better" in my view, it just has triggers and the PS doesn't.

So, triggers on the next controller please Sony!

Yeah, it would be nice even if it just had a pop up like the 360 to advise you that the download has been stopped...

Nothing on that list jumps out at me, maybe the addition of the RTE Player, Sky Player and hurry up with video rentals/downloads in Ireland!

Motion controller and more offline multi-player titles - somewhat wii like, only in the full PS3'ish serious gaming glory!

Eh.. I take it you don't often check sites like IGN.com and kotaku? Motion Controller is coming out this year with 1:1 motion detection, technically it'll grind the wii into dust :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

That's all I've been reading since I got PS3 few weeks ago! :D

It's coming, but I will keep it in my list until I actually get it - it's Sony after all! :D And more content that uses motion controller - that's going to be crucial!

    PS: This year? :D

You can buy things in HMV, and I'm sure elsewhere, for like 3 euro that attach to R2 and L2 making them more trigger like, makes the controller way more comfortable to use imo well worth the trip into your nearest shop

I'd bring back the ability to install other OS's. Mainly because I wanna play my SNES ROMs, though.

yeah backwards.. there'll be old titles i'll be keen to check out for retrosake but i can't. what was the point in removing it if theyre gonna offer things in the store, i thought these corporate types knew the advantages of capitalism inside out but no point in buyin em now is there if i can't run em

Their servers are awful for downloading updates from. I'd agree on the controller as well, it's a pile of pants. MKV playback would be nice (as well as for xbox 360).

the analogue sticks to curve in instead of out. better invite and chat system.
i have a launch model so none of the other stuff bothers me really. i also update from a usb so that doesnt bother me much either! so out of everythin on that list i picked nothing :p

Prolly something similar to LBP where you can play games online with multiple profiles logged in?

"Standby" charge for Controllers.... It's ridiculous you have to have the PS3 on full power to charge a small maH battery .
That's equal power usage to turning on a mediuml size empty fridge to make 1 ice cube ?

I'd be happy if they just stopped us having to press triangle and go to display all to see .avis on external drives. I find the whole interface to be very unfriendly and difficult to use.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 282 ✭✭macpac26

I hope they dont add backwards compatability as its an extra cost the console doesnt need. I paid full whack on launch for all the features so screw the cheapstakes :D

I like the UI its FAST, theres nothing worse than an overly graphical, sluggish UI. The XMB is so much quicker to get to stuff, im not overly fussed with fancy UI. The Xbox UI is ok but its quite slow and has too many menus.

All it needs is an RTE Player and a Video Download service...that and FFVIII on the store :)

    Main issues:

Release official controllers with battery packs. Having a controller suddenly die, not having another one charged, then having to stop gaming, then find the cable, then make the choice "do I leave the PS3 on for the next 2 hours to charge the controller? Maybe I could plug it into the PC? Will that be on for the next 2 hours?"... it's a pain.

Yes you can get extensions for the cable, so that you can plug it in and continue playing but that fiddly little micro usb connection has no resistance, the slightest tug and the cable pops out.

I love the battery pack on the 360 controller. It means I can easily upgrade the battery life of the controller by just swapping in better batteries. When the ones that are currently in it die I can just swap in new ones. I use high quality rechargeable batteries for my 360 controllers that last at least a month between charges.

On top of this I have a gripe with the in game notification system. You only have 2 options, to enable it, or disable it. It's just stupid. Not even Yahoo! Messenger from '99 was that basic. I don't want to be notified every time someone comes online, I just want to be notified when I've received a new message. Some people in my friends list must have shoddy internet connections because they will go on and off line around 10 times in a row causing constant notifications to pop up. There's no option to just turn off notifications for that user, I don't want to remove them from my friends list either.

The whole friends management system needs a complete overhaul, they need to look at something like Skype or some other IM and make a list of standard features they all have then start incorporating them into the PS3

    Better grip on analogues.

    More off line multiplayer games.

Better browser - tabs, quicker loading, uptodate java, ability to use browser in game.
