JSB and repeat claim

    Hi,

I have had a quick scan through what was posted before but can't find anything that quite matches my query

I was working on a fixed 3 mth contract ( totalled 14 weeks full time work ) and finished on last Friday. I was on Jobseekers benefit for the previous year ( Sep 2008 - Sep 2009 ), having been made redundant in Sept 2008. Previous to that, I would have worked without break for the previous 11 years. I went to the SW office to make the repeat claim this morning for JS Benefit, and was told that I would only get JS allowance. I thought that I would be entitled to JSB for a limited period but I may be wrong? As far as I'm aware, I did everything by the book

Thanks for any guidance that you can offer. Have a great Christmas, everyone

From the sounds of it, you should qualify for Jobseeker's Benefit, if you were paying PRSI contributions for the 14 weeks you were working on the contract.
Generally, if you work and pay PRSI for 13 weeks after exhausting your JSB, you should requalify for JSB. I'd go to the Decisions/Pending area of your Local Office and ask them why you do not requalify for JSB.

Just a question had you JSB expired before you started that three month fixed contract? Maybe that is the reason that they have refused it. But I would call them or visit in person again to find out why you've been turned down.

My own JSB claim will be out soon and I received a letter today saying that I could get this benefit for a further 321 days if I had 260 contributions since I started working and had 13 PRSI contributions at Class A, H, or P since 13/05/09. I've just worked 15 weeks so hoping I will continue on with JSB as my temp contract is just about to terminate.

Even if you're not entitled to JSA make sure to sign for credited contributions. They are very important and may help you get benefit and pensions in the future.

Sorry....haven't worked put how to do the thanks thing, but thanks for taking the time and trouble to reply, cArOl and poppyfields.

I had received the letter saying it was due to expire and replied with the form attached. I would have been signing for about a week over the year. I will definitely be signing for credits at the very least. I thought I would requalify for JSB. I'll go to the decisions area as suggested and good luck with your case, poppyfields

It's so depressing to be doing all of this again...was really hoping that work would pick up
