Advice needed on how to keep hens laying all winter. I own 5 and they laid very well all year but now supply has almost stopped ?? Maybe this is normal. Will they re start again in spring ???

As far as i know hens normally stop laying due to the lack of light at this time of the year and restart when we get a bit more daylight, i dont know how you might get them to restart sooner - more light i guess!

You need to put a light in their shed, timed so it extends the day length by 2-3 hrs or so.
Morning or evening it doesn't really matter as long as they think the days are longer than they are.

Mine are free ranging and only lay for about 8 months of the year , you can expect them to start laying again after about mid Feb when daylight hours increase. I normally let a hen rear a batch of chicks during the year & the hens that come from that batch usually lay over their first winter just because they are the age for laying. At the end of the summer I had 4 hens & 2 new pullets, the hens ( started laying in January ) have stopped laying since September & the pullets have started laying in October they were born the first of May so I have eggs this year all year round
