Gear cable snapped in dura ace sti lever

Anyone ever taken apart a dura ace STI lever? I'm afraid if I open it up it'll go all jack-in-the-box all over my kitchen.

Shifted gear yesterday and the gear cable snapped right in the shifter.

Thought the end with the nipple had popped out on the road so installed a new cable today.

It was fine for a few minutes and then it jammed- I could see a frayed cable end peaking out from just under where the cable enters the lever - through the small gap between the chrome lever and the black plastic part if that makes sense?

Managed to unjam the lever after messing with it for a bit, but couldn't get the cable end loose and it's disappeared inside again.

This happened to me before. It takes time, a very small screwdriver and patience to wiggle it out. I contemplated taking the lever apart but from what I can gather its hell to get them back together.

Got it out...that was annoying. Cable only a few months old as well.

Glad you got it sorted, same thing happened to me and I ended up ruining the shifter, had to get a new one.

Ive had this happen to me more than once, the main thing is to click the gears so that the head is pointing the right way and can come out, and then get a needle nose pliers and have a really deft touch and ALOT! of patience with it, its a headwreck but once you get it its like christmas! :D such a relief!

Had this happen before. In sent it back to Shimano and got it replaced. Needs to be done through a retail store, CRC are fine to deal with for this.
