Wheel advice

    Hi,

I'm looking for a bit of advice, I'm thinking of changing my wheels and I have a 9 speed shimano cassette, most of the hubs that I'm looking at are for 10 speed cassettes. If I have to replace the cassette, which I'm not against cause they don't cost too much, will the gears just need a bit of tuning and Bob's your uncle ?

The other way seems to be to keep the cassette I have and fit it to a 10 speed hub using what I think are spacers, this may not be what spacers are intended for, I'm not sure about that.

Anyway, any advice would be welcome.

    Thanks

You can't use 10 speed cassettes with 9 speed STIs. A Shimano hub will fit 9 and 10 speed cassettes using a supplied spacer. What wheels are you thinking of?

I'm thinking about Mavic Ksyrium Equipe Road Wheels

I have a pair of Elites (2004 I think), have swopped 9 and 10 speed cassettes on them with no problems.

There are 10-speed only wheels- these have raised splines and will only take 10-speed cassettes. The vast majority of 10 speed wheels are not like this and will take 9-speed cassettes but you need to confirm this before you buy (I have a set of 10-speed only wheels myself.)

sorry, should have said, Mavic hubs are Shimano 8/9/10 speed compatible. Other hubs maybe 10 speed only.
