fuel filter

    Hi folks

I have just acquired a four y.o Corolla diesel van. It is driving perfectly but was parked up for a few months. But the warning light for the fuel filter is on in the dash. Does that require urgent attention or is it the sort of thing that could wait. Next service isn't due for another 5,000 km.

    Any advice please?

p.s. rang a garage & they said it would need to be put on diagonostics. I see €€€€€ with that or maybe its money well spent

THat light means the filter needs to be drained of water. it's not a big job. you should probably service it seeing as it was lying idle for so long.

There could be moisture in the filter. Some makes of them allow fluid to be drained frm the bottom. See if you can do that.

Otherwise, it'd be cheaper to stick in a new filter rather than get a diagnosis.

Check the web to see if you can run a diagnosis yourself if you cant resolve the problem. Some ECU's allow a short circuit across specific connectors and then flash fault codes on the dash.

Changing the filter is easy enough, you could do it yourself.
