I'm just wondering about getting a freeview box for my brother as a present, but not sure what to get or if it will work in the Finnvalley area, i have seen boxs in argos strabane which seem cheap, but dont know if they will work. There is a dish in the house from a previous sky installation. Any help greatly appreciated

Freeview is UK digital TV that works through an aerial. He will only get this if he can already get BBC from Limavady as Strabane will not have Freeview until the end of 2012. Ireland is testing its own version at the minute with RTE1 and 2, TV3, TG4 and a news channel broadcast from Holywell Hill. The argos Freeview boxes will not work for this as it uses a different system. See also this thread.

If he wants to make use of the old sky dish he can use a Freesat box from places like Argos. These give you a similar line up of channels. Basic ones cost around £50. See the Terrestrial and Satellite threads for more information.

    Thanks for the replys
OK so what i'm looking for is a freesat box, which can use the sky dish? I'm not sure if he will be high enough up to get a signal from Limavady,he would live on the main ballybofeyto donegal town road.

Doubtfull I would say you are way to far west and even then I know people that get a signal say on one street and others down the road don't - Pretty much hit and miss...
