I am thinking of installing Windows 7 on a Compaq Presario 5320 (my parents computer). Is it advisable to do so or will it even work? Thanks.

If it is running Vista then Windows 7 will work.

if the only reason is to speed up vista then check the tweaks on the the stickies

    how much ram

    what speed is it

If its' running XP it won't get faster and if it's an early XP it'; won't run at all

if its; running 2000 or lower then it probably won't run 7

1.5-GHz Pentium 4, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB hard drive

It's pretty old, so I reckon it's prob one of the earlier versions of XP.

I installed Win 7 on 2 old machines running 512mb ram without any problems whatsoever.
Worked absolutely fine. Installing it on a third and have no worries.

Oh well, I'll just reinstall XP again then. Thanks.

The worst that can happen IF it won't install, is that you have to take a few minutes to format again - if necessary at all.

TBH a copy of Windows 7 is probably worth more than a PC with just 512MB RAM

Tweaking and adding RAM or buying a second hand PC might be more worthwhile than sticking windows 7 on a 5 year old machine

I already have a copy of Windows 7 that came with my sisters new PC.

That copy is licensed ONLY for your sisters new pc

OEM software is not transferable to any other PC.

please read the charter about software you have licenses for
