Cash or credit?

How many of you still use cash for all transactions?

I only use it for travelling on the train and paying for taxi's, everything else I use my debit card.

I was in Austrailia a few months ago and all taxi's accepted credit and debit cards.

I hate carrying cash around, anyone else feel the same?

More or less the same. Might use the CC the odd time when I dont have cash. I still routinely go to the ATM and take out enough money to pay for goods and services. Weird or what!

But, OP, you asked about cash or credit, yet you admit to using neither? (I know you said you use cash for trains, and the like)

Debit card is not a credit card.

Meh, cash is king. I spend what I have, I don't spend what I don't have. Debit cards/credit cards just make it easier to spend what I don't want to spend.

I prefer using my visa debit card if what I'm getting is over about 40 or 50 euro. But under that will generally use cash.

I use debit card most of the time and credit card where I cant use my debit card. I pay 100% of my credit card bill every month so I'm not putting off spending.

I hate it when all my small change builds up and I have a load of 1's, 2's and 5's. Using a debit card or credit card stops this from happening.

Prefer cash and if I'm stuck if ATM is out of service I will use the Laser card. Have a CC mainly for tickets and that on the interweb and I am so bad I don't even know my PIN no for it.

I'm the complete opposite, I have a laser card ages and have never used it, cash is far quicker and so much more convenient, hate those people who use a laser card for buying things under €50

    Why?

Only Cash..thing on the radio saying over the next 8/9 years the cheque is getting completely phased out

I used to use my debit card for everything but have recently changed banks to PTSB and they wont give me a debit card until I have had by wages going into my current a/c (which I have had open for two years with just €10 in it) for six months... BUT... I have a joint account with my OH which does not have any wages going into it and they gave us a debit card straight away.... the price of no fee banking I think!!!

So... to answer your question I use cash... I'm becoming an ATM ninja!

I think cash is really inconvenient, you have to deal with the change and then it's easy to loose cash, if you loose your debit card you can just get a new one with no money loss. Card transactions are getting faster all the time. Eventually I think cash will be done away with, in maybe 20 years or so.

When card transactions are quicker than cash, then i might use them. Until then i'm still gonna be the impatient guy in the shop queue giving the evil eye to the person in front of me that insists on using their card to buy the daily breakfast roll and packet of smokes or whatever, whilst the rest of us wait twiddling our thumbs, for the transaction to finish....
.... ok, i feel better now !! Move along please, nothing to see here..lol:rolleyes:

I generally just use cash, have a laser card but I always just preferred cash, just seems better to manage my finances when I have them in my hand.

I mostly use my Laser card. I don't have a credit card. I would get cash out for small purchases such as a few bits in the shop during the week though. But I often forget to take it out so end up using my card still.

I was in IKEA a couple of weeks ago and when I was at the tills I realised that every second till was CARD PAYMENTS ONLY so as I was paying with Cash I had to go to the normal tills. I was about to explode by the time I got to the top of the queue because the 4 people in front of me used CARDS!!! Even though the queues were smaller on the card tills!

CASH CASH CASH!!!!! All the way!

    Eftpos all the way.

    Hardly ever carry cash

I even use text parking when i can or use my eftpos debit card

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,467 ✭✭✭Wazdakka

I normally just use the Laser/ Credit card for everything.
Except when I'm out on the piss, Then I have cash.

If I'm making a big purchase, for something over 100 quid...I usually pay by CC. For smaller things I pay by cash. Nothing worse than seeing someone pay for a couple of items in a grocery shop and handing in the CC...jesus, cash is so much quicker!

    Only use Cash,

Dont have a laser, credit or debit card of any sort. If I need to buy something online I just use my parents credit cards and give them the cash

Try to pay by credit card when i can. Just to annoy everyone else in the queue.

I use both, in the last while cash has been king for me.

For those of you moaning about people using cards, would you rather wait behind someone using a card or an old one who takes 20 mins to find her purse, then roots around looking for the cash!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭jester77

Card all the way. If I had my way, I would get rid of cash completely. Bloody nuisance having a pocket full of mixed change and different notes of different currencies bulging up your wallet. And then trying to find an ATM that won't charge a fee. So much easier to just swipe the card and go.

I hate people that use laser, it's bloody slow, it's nowhere near as fast as using cash, never has and never will be!

    Cash is king!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

I like to use cash as I'm not charged for using it. Debit card in a crunch, will probably never, ever own a credit card.

Only have one credit card, always paid off (direct debit) rarely used for non-internet purchases under £100 (other than self service petrol pumps). No debit card (dont see the point -especially Laser which can only be used in the Republic) Chequebook lying in a drawer gathering dust (although handy once in a blue moon)

Cash for anything under £100 (dont see why I should pay hidden charges/levies and let big brother know all my business) unless Ive forgotten to go to the ATM (I can use most of them for free) or are otherwise caught short.

Hate small change (cant for the life of me why we still have 1 and 2p coins) and Euro coins (all look the same to me) but dont see how having a Debit card solves this (Do people who say they "use laser for everything" even use them for purchases under £1/€1 ?)

I remember reading somewhere that credit cards are
the domain of the lower middle class. Cash is king:pac:
