I have a Nikon D1 & D1x, both have slight dust specs or something like it on the sensor and shows on all photos, are there any effective kits out there to clean the sensors.

    Thanks

i'm using sensor swab (the swabs come in different sizes to fit different sensor types) and eclipse E2 (the actual cleaning fluid). bought both online from uk, can't remeber the site but i paid around 65-70 euro for the kit. the manufacturer's site http://www.photosol.com. hope it helps

Has the D1 / D1x got a sensor cleaning function? It vigorously shakes the sensor in an attempt to eliminate dust? This can work wonders.

If not, a suggestion: Try a rocket blower first before you go near your camera's sensor - if something non impact works then it is far preferable to use such a solution. They're generally cheap as chips too. If using, just make sure to squeeze it a few times before using on your camera to get rid of any dust which has settled within the blower itself.

If your camera(s) has dust detection function learn how to use that, it basically gives you a photograph of your sensor with any dust spots highlighted. These are the areas to approach with the rocket blower.

If this doesn't work then go with an impact solution but be careful how you go.

I'm thinking of buying an Olympus E series and understand that they have an inbuilt mechanism that SUPPOSEDLY shakes any dust from the sensor each time the cam is switched on.

I've never owned a dslr but am surprised that this might be a problem with any quality camera.

I think I'd be more inclined to get mine cleaned by a company that specialise in cleaning. I figure you could hold them accountable then if you had issues afterwards. Wouldn't trust myself to go at it with swabs & solution
