Ok, so a mate has just taken delivery of an A&K SVD and (not being an expert on all things Russian;)) I'm wondering what are the options for a scope & mounts?
I'm thinking a POSP is the order of the day so does anyone know what sort of money we're talking and where is the best place to source one (local or otherwise)? Also the required mounts for bolting it on.

    Thanks in advance!

(Rogue waits for Puding's reply cos I just KNOW he's going to be all over this question!)

    hehe :)

you will have to use the side mount rail, the side clamp can be done two ways

you can get a copy of the ak style mount with a rail on top to add on a western style scope this will site a little high due to the different in receiver size between an ak and an svd, but this is the cheap and fast option.

    cheap ak side mount http://www.ebairsoft.com/cyma-side-mount-p-1063.html

you can get a real steel svd side mount with a rail but there expensive, real steel svd mount with rail on top http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=834

the other option is a real steel russian posp, there is a copy but the quality is not the best, i would save for the real posp scope but that is just me ( just make shore you buy the right clamp style for the svd )
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Sniper-Rifle-Scope-SKS-PSL-Romak-3-SVD-POSP-4x24-M_W0QQitemZ160387319692QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2557d4478c

and a guide about how to adjust the clamp for a good fit http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/pso/clamp_adjustments.htm

@Puding: another (stupid) question regarding the POSP you linked to on eBay:

    POSP.jpg

How do I know what the right clamp style is? Is there something other than what's in the picture above that's required to attach it to the rifle?

Apologies in advance for the probably daft question:o

(God bless the man that invented the picatinny rail!:p)

hopefully the retailer should include it in the title 'Sniper Rifle Scope SKS PSL Romak 3 SVD - POSP 4x24 M'

but more than not it just comes down to looks or asking :(
