Octavias are kinda small and crappy inside.. EUR30k would get a fantastic 2nd hard something or a rather weak New car.

Does it have to be new or can it be nearly new? What are your priorities / requirements, apart from that it is an auto diesel family size car?

I think that E500 should get an award something like boards "bargain of the year". Tax would be 1500 a year ?? I'd seriously have to do 35k a year to justify passing that.

Tax is €1,566 per year and yes, even if you do a bit more than average miles and with the higher maintenance, etc. on the Merc, it probably has a cheaper total cost of ownership compared to buying say a 2 year old Corolla or Golf.

The only reason the Merc is so cheap is because 99.9% of people in this country don't know this. I think it's time to shut up now :D

I know, like someone should tell the grannies to stop buying focus's and golfs and start buying newish 400bhp monsters. Just pause to think about that concept.

Nope, the figures don't stack up for that motor on my calculations.

I factor in 1500 depreciation and 30mpg per year. Based on whats out there for sale at the moment.

Buying a large (<2.0 litre) petrol at the moment you must accept that you're married to it - ie the last owner.

10 Grand for an unsaleable Merc that will give you low teens mpg at best, was built during mb's most unreliable period... nah, I'd pass on that TBH.

Just like the 99.9% of the people who can't do basic sums nor have ever owned a car like that ;):p

But for the crack, show us your calculations. The Merc will do about 20mpg average BTW, not low teens.

Oh yeah dont forget to add smiles per miles into your calculations.

Ive sold or traded 3 cars over 2.0l in the last 6mths. For bread and butter crap Im sure it is hard to move pointlessly big engined stuff, but for stand out cars where the larger engines are the point, its totally different, but I gather from your posts you dont "do" cars and unaware of this concept.

Rubbish car in general but I wouldn't mind an E500. Although those exhausts that have been added on and the fancy reg plates ruin it for me.
