Has anyone ever used this? Can it still be bought?

I bought a 95 transit this morning for work, the van is running perfect and the body is straight but its in need of a respray.
As I am only using her for work there is no way I will pay for a respray and someone told me there used to be a product called coach paint which could be brushed on and if done right the finish was smooth.

If any of ye lads know where It can be got please let me know thanks.

rustoleum paint and a roller, can get a near perfect finish,
depending on your prep work, it wont be a quick and easy job its massively labour intensive and if its not done right it will look disasterous

I have plenty of time over xmas to prep the bodywork, is that paint easy to find, was in a few car parts shops today and all I saw was spray cans.

Try Irish Paints in Sandyford Industrial Estate as they are stockists of Coach finish paints.

You could also get tractor paint. You can paint it on, and obviously comes in everything from Massey Red to Ford Blue and all the various shades of white that wheels tend to be.

You will get a reasonably good finish with a brush if you are careful.

Would be a lot easier and faster to use an Air Compressor + Paint Gun. Neither are expensive and Air Compressors have so so many uses.

Never used a spray gun, im sure I could borrow equipment needed but not sure how it would turn out, im looking for the cheapest option to make the van look presentable, Thats why a can of paint and a brush appeals to me.

Think there is a place on Greenhills road that does car paint, also I think the best bet is get a 4inch sponge roller and a rad roller arm,cut in and roll up as near as you can to your cutting in....

Just cant see how your work vehicle, hand painted with a brush, is going to look even close to presentable. Youve never used a Spray Gun (its basically point and shoot, light coats building up, mask off area) fair enough, but have you ever painted a car with a brush? Who does that!? :pac:

How about getting it professionally machine polished?

its possable to get a show quality finish by brush and wet sanding ,
people have been brush painting cars longer than spray painting

    its massivly labour intensive

Ah but if you see the multi coloured tranny she is now you might understand!
I am not after show room finish, all I want is all the panels the same colour, its only going to be used at weekends to bring stock to boot sales and if that goes well for me then maybe I will buy a more modern tranny later in the new year.

Its a business venture starting out on a shoe string budget.

Have to pull meself outa the recession any way I can!!!

Would be interested to see how this turns out. I've got to do up the tail lift and shutter of my transit. Will probably get most of the body wrapped at some stage to totally brighten it up, but that's going to be expensive and can't do it till the budget is there. I'm not sure how the sign people would deal with the shutter and tail lift area and all the bits close to it though so a new coat of paint may be the best solution.

I have started the painting, I used ford tractor paint which can be sprayed or brushed on.
I wet sanded the whole van then thinned the paint down (60% paint,40% thinners).
Used a 4inch roller to apply the paint and a 1 inch brush to touch where needed.
Covered the whole van with 2 coats, I've got to wet sand it lightly again and apply the final coat which will not be thinned as much.

Its gone on very smooth and when the final coat is dry I will spray on lacquer.
    1. I am happy with the result and it only cost 50e.
