Laptop Monitor Problem

Hey lads, my laptop monitor is broke but I have an external monitor that I can use. The problem is when I go to start it in normal mode the laptop dosn't seem to register the monitor, but when I start it in safe mode it does. I went to safe mode to try change the settings to make the external monitor the main one but as its in safe mode it dosn't give me the option to. Just looking for any ideas as to how it may be possible to start the laptop in normal mode and get the screen onto the external monitor. Cheers.

Oh and I started it up in normal mode and pressed FN and F5 but to no avail, I just need to find a way to change the monitor settings

Cheers, I will do that, but I need more information before I do (I am a noob when it comes to these things), so if you (Or anyone) can tell me how to get into the BIOS and then what to look for when in there I would be very grateful. Thanks.
