    Hi Guys,
Im looking for some advice on a dilemma I have. I haven't been able to collect my jobseekers payment from last wednesday due to illness. I'm leaving the country for 2 weeks next wednesday, so my next payment in jan is also a double week. What happens if I am unable to collect this current payment? I don't want to put my trip in jeopardy. My father tried to collect on my behalf, but they said it had to be me in person. I cant get through to them by phone either.

    thanks in advance....

If you don't collect your post office payment on either the day of payment or the following day it will "expire" and it takes approx 3 weeks for it to return to SW. It may then be re-issued.

I would advise you to let SW office know in writing that you did not collect your payment due to illness, and ask if they could re-issue the payment when it returns to SW.

Thanks for that, what about my payment in jan? would that be held up?

Very likeely to lose it because you will be out of the country and will not be looking for work.

I have advised them that I will be out of the country for 2 weeks (as I am entitled to be), its just because of illness that I couldn't collect this week.

i had never thought of this before, so if you leave the country for a holiday u may have ur jsa stopped for that duration?
makes some sense i guess, i just never realy thought of it before

If you are too sick to collect your dole then you are presumably too sick to work and / or look for work... so you are NOT ENTITLED to dole.

You must claim ILLNESS BENEFIT instead.

To be entitled to dole you must be AVAILABLE for work and ACTIVELY SEEKING work. The only exceptions for JSA and JSB that I know of are the 4 weeks prior and 8 weeks after having a baby.
