Hey all, just a quick question:

I'm thinking of buying the Amazon Kindle for my Dad as a Christmas Present, but since its shipping from the US does that mean I will get stung for custom charges? Is there anywhere else (in the EU) that sells them?

    Thanks!

You won't get "Stung" for customs charges, but you will have to pay Irish VAT, the same way as a US person would pay additional sales tax depending on which state they were in and if you were in England, you would pay UK VAT @ 15%, France at 20.6% etc etc.

There's no way around it and neither should there be as this pays towards the generous pension given in this country, the generous child benefit, the heathcare system, the social welfare system etc etc etc.

It is also very clearly stated on the Amazon site that VAT will be payable upon delivery.
