    HI all

I upgraded to Iphone today on O2 network from the Carphone Warehouse. What phone insurance cover would you recommend. I had Phonecover with O2 on my old policy. In the Carphone Warehouse store I was offered "Lifeline" phone insurance which costs €13 p.m. but covers everything. Phone cover with o2 is €9 for phone cover extra whcih covers all with a question mark over the moisture damage claim (some cases are accepted and some are not).
    Thougths will be appreciated

Can you put it under your house insurance, should work out a lot cheaper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,267 ✭✭✭Elessar

I've only ever heard nightmares about trying to get money off Carphone Whorehouse insurance, there's a few threads about it on boards, do a search. The O2 iphone forums have some people with terrible problems with them too.

You could get it added to your house/your parents house insurance for a small fee?

I put my HTC HD2 phone on my house insurance and it only cost me 5 euros but I do have to pay the first 125 euros of any claim I make. :)

Will it cover loss out/damage out side of the house of how does it work. I did find phone ineurance form this crowd. Not sure what they are like.

Mine does but I'm not sure about if I lost it would it be covered but it would be covered if it was stolen. So if my phone happens to go missing while I'm out it was obviously stolen :D

The best thing to do is ring up your house insurance provider and ask them. :)

If you read the T+Cs of phonesonline.ie it says they'll only give you a handset worth up to 375, even if the value limit of your cover is higher. Theft is also the first exclusion even though in the section on what it covers in the non-small-print it says theft! Looks like a complete scam to me  Or maybe I'm missing something

I am thinking of making a complaint about that phonesonline.ie insurance deal.

It was falling into line with what I was looking for until I read the T&C in detail. I mind my phones very well and with the exception of thieft I have never lost or damaged a phone. To have the T&C completly rubbish the policy claims is bad form.

Hi OP, I've moved your thread here (Apple Media Devices) where you'll probably get better responses from others with the iPhone. Cheers :)

Put it on house insurence. When i put mine on it. I asked all the question i could think of. It's covered for loss, theft(even if not on you) plus abroad etc.

Im with fbd. Think it cost about €40

I didn't bother with insurance. I keep the phone in a pocket for itself. No coins keys or wallet allowed in that pocket! Workin well, not a scratch on it and going a bomb!!

Yeh but what if you lose it. I lost a phone 2 months into a contract before, and your just screwd. Horrible feeling. Plus this is a €609 phone. For me I just could not take that risk.
But I would struggle to pay CP or O2 insurance. Its a rip and the lost/stolen policy is a very iffy.

fonemenders were advertising an insurance for €6 so I'm going to look into that one, for those of you putting it on your house insurance - after paying the excess and loosing your no claim bonus it might not be worth your while claiming.. I've learnt this the hard way and after loosing TWO phones to water damage over the years I def need decent insurance..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 406 ✭✭akadesign

Sorry to highjack the thread, but if your iPhone was bought sim free, what options are out there? Would be looking to cover the following:

    - General repair
    - Water damage
    - Theft / Loss

Why is there premium plan, which covers €750 and covers everything a lot cheaper than iPhone 4 plan which only costs €699 and the only difference is extended warranty which is pointless when accidental damage etc... is already covered.

If you have already purchased the iPhone, you will have to bring it into the store within the first month (you will also have to bring the accessory's as they have to confirm that everything is in working order, the box as well if possible)

You can also buy it at the point of purchase on both online and in store ;]

Has anybody had any experiences with the 3 insurance? If it's anything like as bad as O2or CPW's one, it is nowhere near worth it.

I signed up to the 3cover. Have a look at your policy documents when you get them, the exclusions make the policy pretty much pointless unless your at home and get robbed by a ninja who forces his way in.
    Exclusions
    The Insurer shall not be liable for;
    1. Theft of the Equipment from any unattended vehicle unless all windows are closed all doors are securely locked all security devices are activated and the Equipment is concealed from view in a locked glove compartment locked boot or locked load area.
    2. Theft of the Equipment from any premises or mode of transport unless involving forcible and violent entry or exit.
    3. Accidental Loss or Theft of the Equipment whilst left Unattended when it is away from your home.
    4. repair or replacement arising as a result of negligent use wilful abuse or misuse.
    5. Any and all repair costs or charges arising from mechanical and/or electrical breakdown.
    6. Damage to the battery or aerial or any cosmetic damage.
    7. The cost of replacing or repairing accessories or costs arising from the use of accessories unless on a 12 or 18 month contract.
    8. The cost of routine inspection service adjustment or cleaning resulting in accidental damage.
    9. Damage caused during installation or removal.
    10. Any amount recoverable under any guarantee warranty or other insurance.
    11. Repairs carried out by persons not authorised by Us.
    12. The policy excess as detailed below.
    13. The cost of replacing any stored data including but not limited to tunes songs personalised ring tones pictures films or graphics.
    14. Any damage or fault caused by any form of electronic virus. For the purpose of this Exclusion, a virus includes Trojan horses, worms, logic bombs or any other program or software which prevents any Equipment operating system software or content download working properly in any way.
    15. Airtime Abuse where the time period from discovery of the Theft or Accidental Loss to it being reported to 3 is no longer than 24 hours.
Sent an enquiry about leaving the phone behind in a clients office or it being stolen from my place of work and got this response.
    Thank you for your email.

As per your terms and conditions, I can confirm that we do not cover your handset if it is left unattended and if there is no forcible entry or exit into the premises or mode of transport where the phone was placed.

Please note that if you are not happy with our terms and conditions of our policy and would like to cancel the policy, you cancel the direct at the bank or put it in writing. You have got 3 months free insurance on your policy at the moment.

    Thanks

    Kind Regards

Fonesure is a trading style of Pier Insurance Managed Services Ltd.

So Question is what's the point paying 9 euro a month to not actually be covered for what it says your covered for.

More to the point: How can you have Accidental Loss of the phone WITHOUT having left it Unattended when it is away from your home.

To be honest though, those terms and conditions don't seem to really put a stop to much. They basically say that if you break it on purpose, they won't fix it, if you do something stupid like leave it at a bus stop on Abby Street expecting it to still be there when you get back from work, they won't fix it. It seems they will still fix it if you get mugged or you manage to smash it by dropping it, which is what most people would sign up to it for.

Putting it on the house insurance has ridden costs and downsides: putting it on your house insurance costs around €50 pa for specified all risks. That means loss or damage outside the house. However, aside from the excess of around €70 PLUS loss of your No Claims Bonus on renewal, there seems to be a painful process for repair with delays for form filling and authorisation. Anybody go down this route for repairs?

My advice would be to stay away from 3 cover-ran by pier insurance- real shower of cowboys altogether.. Check out threads on Pier- please go with anyone else!!
    They are an absolute nightmare😰

Vodafones insurance at 10e a month is a rip off if you ask me. I'm usually good enough to mind phones so if didn't get the insurance, would apple or vodafone cover me in any way shape or form if there was a technical issue with the phone say in the first few months? or is it just tough s**t for me?? Half thinking of taking the chance!!

I never insure my iPhone. Have had 3 in the last four years. Sold on each one and upgraded. Am amazed at how many people do this. I always think of the theme tune to Laurel and Hardy when I meet someone who insures their phone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭JOAT

Are you on a contract? What if you lose the phone at the beginning of the contract?? The phone company will still want to be paid even though you dont have a phone anymore!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,534 ✭✭✭✭guil

Insurance is a rip off IMO. Just be careful with the phone and save yourself a fortune

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 chipster1973

Yes I have and stay as far away from them as possible you will just be ripped off, no matter what happens they will shift the blame to you and that's it.... no cover

I recommend to stay away from pier insurance. I was paying monthly for nearly two years then when I had things wrong they wouldn't fix them. They said you have to report damage within 48 hours. One of my problems with my iPhone was battery dying which happened since upgrading so the problem was getting progressively worse. They don't communicate this very well. They just don't want to pay out.

It's probably cheaper to get the battery replaced out of your own pocket than pay the excess for the ins co to do it
