what do you remember , what stands out for you when you think of back to the "good oul days" !??

For me it had to be :

    *When super nintendos became popular
*When people bought music and CD was "da s***"
    *Before the MySpace frenzy...
*Before the Internet & text messaging...
    *Before Sidekicks & iPods...
*No one ever heard of the 'R' word
    *Before PlayStation2 or X-BOX...
*When light up runners were cool.
*When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs.
    *When Petrol was 0.89
*When we called the radio station to request songs to hear off our walkmans

and who could forget .... the Pound and S*** was cheap

I believe there was one of those things in the decade that came before the 90's, so that kinda messes with your nostalgia.

Things I remember from the 90's

    - Ace of Base
    - Big Hair
    - Slow computers
    - Cyberpunks
    - The last remnants of Catholic Ireland dieing(huzzah).
    - The seemingly happier world of pre 9/11
    - Bands and musicians who were not crap being semi popular.
    - Y2K Hype
    - Games with 8-bit sound.
    - Our much less metro sexual currency.

So you were born in 1990/91, therefore how would you remember the first half of the 90s - at least?
Super Nintendo being popular - that was 1992/93!

Anyway the 90s mostly sucked (apart from the very early part of the decade). 80s ftw!

I think the 2 facebooks groups sum it up well "When I was your age, we had Keenan and Kel, not Drake and Josh"

and "When I was your age, everyone wanted a Nokia 3310, not an Iphone".

There was an "R" in the 90's.

I was a teenager in the 90's but it was nice being able to call in next door for a bit of milk or sugar and people where willing to help each other out.

Ee... I remember t'war - folk were good 'uns back then.

    Pretending you're ancient ftw! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,791 ✭✭✭electrogrimey

I'm 19. So, for me, the 90s were making unsanitary 'mixtures' in the sink, the smell of copydex and crayons, and tantrums.

I hadn't heard of a recession because I was in primary school, everyone else had though. Light up runners weren't cool, you were just in primary school. You don't remember the price of petrol, and you were too young to rent videos. This thread should be, 'do you remember the 90s? I don't, but my older brother told me it was:____'.

Isn't is the job of every generation to say the next are getting worse and times were simpler/better/easier back then?

People born in the 90s are the spoiled brats of today. They wouldn't remember those things.

People born in the 80s on the other hand grew up with all that. You were a decade too late :p

You mean they don't still? Sure, the property boom has led to a lot of impersonal communities building up, but those older communities where people look out for each other are still there.
You're talking about the 90s (it was the decade of Friends and Sex & The City - hardly days of yore) the way my gran talks about the 50s. :D

People born in the 80s hardly "had it bad" either, generally speaking. The youngest generation to have known actual hardship is perhaps those born in the 60s/early 70s at a push - because they and their parents were affected by unemployment/poverty/emigration as children/young adults when Ireland really was in terrible shape economically (the 70s/80s).

Wondered that myself....so he was playing his Super Nintendo at the age of two while at the same time compiling a list of petrol prices! (Leaded or Unleaded?! :D)
    *Before PlayStation2 or X-BOX...

And what happened in the years between the Super Nindento and Playstation 2??
    Playstation anyone????

By the end of the 90's you were turning the ripe old age of 9...I wish I could remember the first 9 years of my life that well!!
    And anyway, mid-80s kids rule!

Sonic the Hedgehog... still a great game!

How can anyone think the nineties were crap?

The Super Nintendo, Sega Megadrive, Neo Geo...capcom cps2..okay I'll try to get away from videogames..er.. Terminator 2. Alice in Chains. All the best Simpsons eposides. Super Soakers. The Gulf War. The Fresh Prince of Bel-air. Gladiators. Gamsmaster.

The early to mid nineties and late nineties almost seem like two totally different decades. Actually now that I think about it, the late nineties were crap. Their ****tyness really followed on into this crap decade.

Seriously? You can remember that? I've got a good 7 years on you, and can just about remember that.

SNES wasn't popular, you only think that. Mega Drive was where it was at. (Starting a fanboi war, but none the less.)
Christ I remember before the Myspace, Facebook, Bebo frenzy. Seeing as that really only started here about 3 years ago, its not that hard.
Light up Runners are still cool.
