Hey guys, my current inspiron 6000 has done well over the last four years, but showing its age at this stage. My budget for a new one is 600, broke postgrad student so can't go too much over. Need it for chemical modelling, running a local MySQL server and general office work. Don't need it for games, but a small graphics card would be nice for modelling (have a ati x300, something that low end, just a hair above integrated).
Good core2 is a must, at least 2ghz. 2 gig ram is fine, hard drive over 100gb fine. currently have a 15.4 1280x800 screen, same would do, a little higher res would be nice. Don't need any frills- webcam, custom colour, bluetooth, fingerprint scanner etc, just looking for a workhorse.
Is this reasonable at this price bracket? If so, any brand recommendations? Have only ever had dells but prices on their site seem a bit high at the minute, and their studio ones have either a 250 quid video card or none! Cheers.
