Grassland Rejuvenation Query

    I was wondering what is the best way to Rejuvenate old pasture without the expense of reseeding. there is a lot of old dead grass in the butt of the swards at the minute. I was planning on using a chain harrow to open up the sward and then use the spreader to broadcast fresh seed. will this work?

    a chain harrow will just hop along grassland , wont scratch or open anything ,
    A scratch of a power harrow , followed by a little slurry after seeding works pretty well . Some just throw a few bags of seed into the slurry tank while aggitating , doing away with a pass with the seeder ,
    Some say this can compact the ground though ! Its hard to beat ploughing to loosen up the ground and turn down the old surface .

    btw I wouldnt bother doing any of this until the late spring when there is a bit of growth
