All good points, but don't forget everybody who needs thier annual dose of Die Hard 1...

"Why the fuck didn't you stop 'em, John? 'Cause then you'd be dead, too, asshole"

    or

"nine million terrorists in the world and I gotta kill one with feet smaller than my sister"

    and who could forget...

"Asshole? I'm not the one who just got butt-fucked on national TV, Dwayne!"

The old one is fab!! Charlie's teacher comes out with priceless quotes:

Mr. Turkentine: Of course you don't know. You don't know because only I know. If you knew and I didn't know, then you'd be teaching me instead of me teaching you - and for a student to be teaching his teacher is presumptuous and rude. Do I make myself clear?
    :D

I checked the Christmas edition of the RTE guide and I'm pretty sure that Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory isn't on this year!! Shockin'.

For some reason I always thought the following were always on
    around Christmas time.

Indiana Jones, Superman, Supergirl , the 10 Commandments, Ben Hur,
    Jason and the Argonauts, Sinbad.

Im reliably informed that Polish TV's equivalent of Willy Wonka/The Sound of Music/etc is "Home alone"

Just got back from the Americas and I must say, SKY and NTL can shove their boxes up their arse! Britain and Ireland have useless TV. I want to buy an American cable set. All the Universal, Warner Brothers, HBO movie channels, excellent and ESPN is 100% better than SKYSPORTS. I tell you, the Americans really love their TV.

Don't they usually show the same film as BBC One on Christmas Day.

AFAIK. the Great Escape is not on TV this year (excluding SKY Movies). Nor Ben Hur, though Spartacus is on RTE. I assume it's the original, and not the remake with Goran (er) Visnijc (sp?)

I nursed a hangover last year from the couch watching Laurence of Arabis, for the first time. I think Chitty Chitty has not been on for a few years. From my childhood I remember Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates being a Christmas perennial.

    RTE 1 14:00 The Incredibles
    BBC 1 15:10 The Incredibles

RTE also showing Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix & Devil wears Prada. BBC aren't (on Christmas Day, anyway).

Mr. Wonka will no doubt be on Tg4, utterly watchable movie though...no doubt the BBC has some Potter flick on.
