So I got my NCT yesterday and the disc says valid until Feb 2011.
    Is that right?
I thought it was valid for two years?

Sounds like you were almost a year late doing it.

Its valid 2 years from last NCT disc you had and not 2 years from when NCT was done.

If your car is over 10 years old NCT is now an anual event. So if your car was first registed in feb 2000 it will be due again in Feb 2011

That is only a proposal , no where near been law yet.

It's dependent on the month and year of registration of the car as to how long
    the NCT lasts.

It's quite common when you bring a car in from the UK that you only get a short
NCT, I brought in my car 2 years ago and my first NCT disc only lasted 3 months.

If you go onto the NCT site it says what cars are due when, and it's in accordance with that.

True but ridiculous at the same time, had mine done in October (due in july) and it's out in July 2 years, find that hard to swallow considering it was NCT's fault it was late being tested.

    Not entirely true...
If you let it go out of dat by more than 2 years, the 2 year counter starts again.

If you get it tested 23 months late, you'll get an NCT that lasts one month.
If you get it 25 months late, you'll get an NCT for 23 months
    :D
    Only in Ireland....

You could of booked it in early to get it done 3 months before due date and then come out with 27 months NCT

I agree with you. It happened to me, I was waiting for 6 months for my NCT and only got 18 months renewal on it.

I did try but was quoted December when I tried (in May), kicked up a fuss that because of their mistake I would be breaking the law driving without the cert, they caved and booked me in for October. I shouldn't have to be short changed due to their mismanagement.

Is it only in certain parts of the country there's a huge wait?

I booked a test for 30th October about 10 days in advance - and the retest in November about a week in advance. Both on Saturdays (Deansgrange).
