How to avail of combined shipping on Ebay?

There's a seller that has a couple of items that I want buy.
I see on their listing that they offer combined shipping for multiple purchases.
I'm just wondering how do I avail of the combined shipping?

Usually when you buy an item and the postage is set.
I'm unsure what to do in this situation. Should I message the seller first and ask about combined shipping first?
If I get a positive response, do I add both items to my basket on ebay and then get an invoice from the seller with the combined postage?

    Is that how it works?

Buy everything you want, then when it puts them all together in the basket, you request a total from the seller. The seller then invoices you with a combines shipping quote. That's how I've done it a few times.

If the seller has combined shipping options, they'll have no problem with this.

There are plenty of ways to get caught out on combined shipping so its best to ask the seller before buying rather than rely on their goodwill afterwards.

Even if the seller posts the rates for additional items I'd always check as if you are buying different items then you don't know exactly how the rates will be applied unless of course the seller spells it all out.

Then again some sellers never discount the postage as its part of the item price ;), stuff from HK or China for example.

ask for a shipping quote before buying the items. List the ones you want and ask for the quote.... if its reasonable then buy the items and request the total... you'll receive an invoice from the seller then with the items listed and total shipping cost - thats what i usually do anyway!

Personally I'll only buy from sellers that list the price for the 2nd (or more) item now. They have it in the postage section, they'll show the price for the first item and then the discounted price for each additional item from their shop.

Twice in the past I've contacted sellers to confirm combined shipping, they've agreed to it, but then when you buy the items and request a total they don't honour it.
