Maybe the OP is a twisted social deviant who doesnt have a TV and resents being subjected to the official harrasment over his unlicenced status which non-dog/gun/car/etc owning individuals seem to largely escape.

No need for rule two if you follow rule one though

How much does it cost the License people to make those adverts and have them shown on RTE? Bearing in mind that whenever I have seen the ads, they are usually between 6-10 and that is a very costly time to advertise. Just so we can enjoy the talents of Joe Duffy and Pat Kenny.

I agree, those adds are threatening and they really get on my nerves, especially when so much of the tv licence money goes into making them. It's annoying also that so much money goes to RTE from the tv licence money. Most people have satellite or cable now and alot of people I know watch very little on the Irish stations anyway. Also look at the obscene amounts of money being paid to P.Kenny, G.Ryan, R.Turbidy, M.O'Callaghan, J.Duffy and son on. It's also extremely annoying when they say - RTE has taken cuts - does that mean RTE gets to keep that money and not pay it to the Government to help with the recession. This Government has a lot to answer for - when are they going make these high earners pay more tax. Some of the poorest people who have been cut again in the latest budget, they still have to pay their tv licences, the last thing they want is to be threatened like this.

I think the licence is a good thing and in general I like the idea of a national broadcaster ,but these ads really just add salt to the wounds.
Everyone knows they have to pay their licence

Why doesn't RTE have ads for flood relief donations etc.

They've heard every excuse, and "my house is underwater" is one of them.

Picture this... and it's true.

You go off on a night out with the lads in Manchester, you end the night with a takeaway curry and what is on the lid...... A FECKIN' BIG ADVERT ABOUT THE TV LICENCE!!! there is no escaping the reminders in the UK!!

I always found TV lisence funny. They send a signal to your house, regardless of your want for it, where as I can access RTE, Channel 4,E4 BBC, all on the internet for free...legally. TG4 also stream shows for free all the time, the only thing I watch is football on it and its always streamed. There are many others too that I cant think of.

I can also access any show or movie on the internet should I wish.

How long before you have to pay a licence fee to have a computer, phone or ipod? All are capable these days of watching RTE on.

Don't give them ideas !!!! or they will. At least you don't have an aeriel with a computer and no one can prove what you are actually watching. It's time we had more choice anyway. I also think that the Govt can influence RTE anyway the fact that so much of RTE's money comes from the TV Licence. Vincent Browne maybe right about the way that RTE are reporting on the recession.

And it's true most of us are going to pay for it anyway - like we always pay our bills - they don't need to threaten us like. They should put more money instead into going after the ones that don't.

The gov't can definitely influence RTE, look at them doing a prime-time on crime when the budget was looming. I think there's been an edict to cut down on the bad press for the economy.

Anyone noticed how in the TV license re-mix ad, they've left off the one about the Polish lads?

You know I figured youd be less happy about the 21% VAT and stuff. Not to mention Income Taxes. But sure, lets single out the smallest annoyance of them all, the Television License. "Rawr Pat Kenny $@#%&(@* Gobshyte %(#&((!(%$*" But forgetting to remind yourself that Pat Kenny isnt the biggest Gobshyte of all.....♫

(and neither is it Rudolf if you thought I was about to break into song) -♫-

I mean just forget your government has been lining its own pockets for years and ignoring things like - oh off the hat - hospital closures in exchange for the odd bridge or bicycle lane (and you'll just have your bicycle stolen from yeh according to one angry pleb up top). So you have to wonder are you really mad at the TV License or should you be really mad that you've voted in a pack of crooks?

Think about it.

Yea, sounds like me too. They get the same reaction as the religious that come around.

I would love to hear this as an add instead of the people who implicate themselves. Just close the fckin door on them. They have no legal powers.

Knock knock.
Me: opens door
TV license inspector: hello do you have a tv license.
Me: Slam
