You'd probably do better with it than a few of the organisations listed above.

One of them have standard advice when you call about a stray cat "stop feeding it and it will go away"

Are the organisations asked to account for the money they spend? Now don't get me wrong. I know that most of them do fantastic work. But where money is being given out like that you'd imagine there might be a few chancers too. Is there a way to tell them apart, or can anyone register and get money as bond mentioned?

The paperwork is quite extensive, including bank statements, ingoing, outgoing, fundraising efforts, tax clearance cert etc. And of course they want to see bills etc.

Sorry I should of added (can't get used to no edit !) that the grant process needs to be transparent, as it should with all government expenditure. Rescues need to know what is expected & how their suitability for a grant will be assessed. This would make the process fair & equitable. Rescues will always attract criticism. Some of it may even be justified but the key issue is how good they are at taking in animals & rehoming them.

The same openness needs to apply to Pounds as well. It is not acceptable that a pound manager should have total power over life & death. There should be clearly set out criteria that are available for all to view. After all we pay for Pounds. At the moment too much is left to the "discretion" of managers. The Pounds need to shift from killing to rehoming. There is no reason why a Pound should not release any dog to any legitimate rescue.

May I just add that thisis an ex gratia grant as always stated clearly on the paperwork, meaning: there is no obligation or liability to pay it.

Since this is the only grant I am getting annually, I am delighted.

Now Peter, I am awaiting your Fiver ;)

It's going to change though - so people can just look it up like in the link Hellrazer gave, it'd be more accurate then.
