fEMINISTS

I did an Arts degree a few years ago (many of you may stop reading at this point with good reason)....anyway one of my subjects was English lit and one module that was compulsory in the course was feminist literature which absolutely bored the crap out of me. I don't see why I was forced to have to read those books (I didn't really anyway, just the blurbs, memorise a few quotes and you'll pass the exam). Also it seemed that the only common thread running through feminist literature was that it was written by a woman and a woman character had suffered at the hands of a man at some point in the book. As you can imagine mindbogglingly profound stuff.

Anyway what struck me was what our lecturer said during the first class, basically it was her opportunity to offer us her own personalised political sermon. She said "A feminist is anyone who believes a woman is fully human". Then she proceeded to give us a one-eyed man-hating historically skewed diatribe for about an hour. When the rant was over (class was about 80% women) I cowered out of the class looking appropriately ashamed of myself for being male and realised with pride that I TOO WAS A FEMINIST.

I believe a woman is fully human (although judging by what I see around town a case could be argued that a significant minority are related to orcs - i jest of course, distant relations at best).

So don't you see, WE ARE ALL FEMINISTS.

The traditional view of a feminist being a slighly frigid, slightly moustached, undersexed, Sylvia Plath reading monster is incorrect. These women do true feminists a disservice and only seek to emphasise and exacerbate the gender divide. We all have histories with the opposite sex and the traditional feminist may not appreciate the fact that physical attractiveness is key to the female's value BUT IT IS along with other things like kind-heartedness, intelligence, ability to cook (optional) etc.

So please let us create the new feminist here. I love women. I think a woman is fully human and therefore I embrace new feminism, I appreciate them in all shapes and sizes, in all forms, from all agendas; be they the barbie doll, the career woman, the intellectual, the shopaholic, the idealist, the romantic, the goth, the ditzy girl, the argumentative one or all of the above and more.

I even enjoy the traditional feminist although I believe her passion and zeal would best be directed down healthier more productive alleys (like sex with a man or woman).

I am immediately suspicious of anyone with an irrational or overzealous hatred/dislike/intolerance for the opposite sex and I assume that they have been scorned/spurned at some time in their personal history with the opposite sex and seek forever in bitterness to equalize in the most unhealthy of ways.

My message is that we should all be new feminists, reject the old ways. feel free to doll yourselves up and value the importance of attractiveness AS WELL AS going ahead and having a great career, independence, ffering opinions about movies/books etc.

Short-skirts and library cards should not be mutually exclusive concepts.

Reject the old feminist politics of man-hate or the new ladette psychology of aping men.

Be a woman, be everything, we are all new feminists here.

If a girl dresses like a whore, would she not expect to be treated like a whore?

OP, just say "swallow bitch" to her - no need to be so verbose.

Here's the thing: When a woman is just a woman and get on with life and her career etc... just like every other man then nobody is going to really stand in her way (maybe in some career paths but that can also work against men too).

It's when women start ****ing on and giving me a lecture about why men are w**kers and women are so tough because they suffered etc... Well... I dont reallly care and I don't think they fo either - just covering up for other insecurities IMO

If a girl dresses like a 60s chick, would she not expect to be treated like a 60s chick?
I know when I go out in my 60s "threads" I fully expect to hear nothing but Austin Powers-isms.
