    Hello,
I intend on buying a piece of furntiure on ebay. The seller has 1718 feedback with 100% positive in the last 12 months.
The seller had the option to make a best offer. I offered 45 pounds less and recieved an email asking for my phone number. He called and said i could have the discount, however i would have to pay through paypal with a link he would send to me by email.
I realise he is probably trying to save on ebay fees but i feel very uneasy paying outside ebay.
    Should i do this?
    Thanks
    jp

eBay owns Paypal - when you pay by paypal it will be posted against your ebay account. First timer??

Never buy anything by clicking a link in an email. Tell him the proper way to do this so you both have pretection from ebay is to close the auction and re-list it as a buy-it-now lot at the price you both agree.
Everyone is covered.otherwise you will be doing an off-ebay transaction and you will be on your own if it goes wrong.
Remember never buy anything by clicking a link in an email................
    Regards.
    Tom.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
:) I am very new to ebay, and i am enjoying it WAY too much.
Does that mean it is safe?
Why wont he just put the transaction through ebay?

    Edit
Thanks tom, He has a number of these on offer so would not relist it.
I guess i knew alright but the link does go to a genuine paypal invoice and the feedback is good and the discount is very tempting. But i will do the sensible thing.

For the record Bicky, you're correct regarding the sellers reasons to avoid going through eBay. He's just trying to avoid paying the Final Value Fees (FVF).

As enfeild states, you won't have any comeback through eBay if something goes wrong nor will you be able to leave feedback.

Sorry guys but what is the problem here? Are you all new to eBay or did you miss the part where the OP mentioned that the seller had a "best offer"option which filling in the gaps would suggest the item had a Buy it Now price plus a best offer option.

So the seller has accepted the best offer through eBay and sent out what is probably an invoice generated through eBay. All the OP has to do is log into his My eBay Summary and click on the Pay Now link for the item it should now show that he has won. If in My eBay there is no indication that there is an item to pay for them its not a safe transaction blah blah eBay blah....

But then again I could be wrong ;)
