No Available Ports?

I've signed up a few weeks ago for eircom BB, and phoned last night to check the progress of my order. I was told that my application was queued because there were no available ports in the local exchange.

When I asked the approximate waiting time, he told me that he couldn't say, and they would contact me when ports became available.

Can anyone give me a clearer explanation? Is it a physical thing in the exchange where they've used up all of their BB capacity? Will I have to wait until someone cancels their BB, or new equipment is installed? And what would be the approximate waiting time? Are we talking weeks, months, years?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yup, you've answered your own questions, the DSLAM has run out of ports so you have to wait for the bit in bold !

No capacity at the exchange, ah fun times waiting for an order to be finished....bottom line is the order will be finished when its finished.

Ok its not the answer you want to hear but its basically one of the two things happen that you have already said
    - Somebody cancels
    - They install more capacity

Could be a few days, weeks or a couple of months it will never reach years don't worry :)

The joys of 3 mobile broadband for another while yet, then.
    :o

Actually, it's not that bad, but that's for another thread/subforum. :)

Hmmm. Is your exchange in a town/city, a village/crossroads or a local exchange serving a housing estate or two?

I'd say Letterkenny will get extra DSLAM line cards as needed. The wait shouldn't be too long. Before christmas is a busy time with orders for eircom I'm sure.

I heard the same thing when i ordered the broadband from UTV.

Eircom notified UTV that there are no ADSL ports available in EdgeworthsTown Exchange ( Co Longford). Now no one providing any dates ?

This is so sad that we are still not able to get broadband in the year 2014. And no one else offering satilite unlimited broadband.
