I ordered some stuff on Amazon.co.uk last night. Should I be ok for delivery before xmas or might I get stung? There were two options for delivery: Free - 5-6 business Days, or Standard Paid: 3-4 Working Days - I opted for the latter, however it occurred to me, is this 3-4 days to UK or Ireland..

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Your best bet is to go onto the Royal Mail site. It tells you the last day for posting items before Christmas. It will also give you an idea of the time scale.

    Thanks.

Hmmm.... I'm not sure which postage Amazon use but the date for Airmail is the 11th!

Do you think I should cancel my order and just buy locally?

Logging in to the site, it says that all but one of my purchases will arrive by December 24. One will not, so I cancelled it.

Others say delivery by 23/24 December. Are the properly taking into account delivery to Ireland? I'm guessing they do as most other stuff on the site gets UK delivery withing a day or two. Am I wrong?

Most of Amazon's Irish orders stuff are shipped from Ireland, someone posted on BA that last day for orders for Christmas is 21st December (Monday) although I personally think that's cutting it too fine. I think they must bulk ship orders to a depot here and then it goes from there.

That would be with the free super saver delivery

You should be OK, as long as your individual order is not out of stock etc. Amazon say they are shipping to Ireland until Dec 20th.

I doubt you'll get that by the 24th next week. When you buy it is separate to when it's despatched and then delivered to you. I'd cancel it and buy local. Btw, is it a DVD? Amazon's DVDs come from some psuedo sub-company "Indigo Starfish" from one of the Channel Islands which are not part of the UK.

I got the dispatch notice for the first one this morning, and the second one this afternoon. One package was books, the others were womans hair straightener type thingies, so we've got today and the weekend, (post in UK works on Sat) and then 4 working days after that..

I think I should be ok, no?

Hi Zascar, so you ordered on the 16th and got a dispatch notice on the 18th? I ordered on the 17th and got a dispatch note on 19th, they say my order won't arrive before christmas (but it doesn't really matter to me if I don 't get them, it's not 100% essential). I have got loads from them in last few weeks and they are very fast with delivery, you should get them in time I would say, please make sure to post when your items arrive.

Amazon Dvd's don't always come from Indigo starfish, sometimes if you check a particular dvd regularly for price drops you will see that one day its coming from Amazon, the next from Indigo starfish, the next from Amazon and so on

That would be paid for delivery and not the free version?

I put in an order last night and it was dispatched a few minutes ago, I fully expect it before christmas, in fact I think if I ordered something that was in-stock today I would get it in time for christmas.
