Problem with front derailleur angle

EDIT: There is nothing wrong after all, I was just being a mechanical idiot again.

I was changing the crankset on one of my bikes back from compact to standard. The crankset changing went fine but I also had to raise the front derailleur which is where the problems started. I accidentally undid the bolt attaching the derailleur to the clamp but then put it back together. Only seems to be one way it can go so don't see how I could have mucked up too much there. However on undoing the seatclamp and raising the derailleur I find the angle in relation to the chainwheel is wrong. This is how it is meant to look (and indeed how it looks on all my bikes):

Mine is in the attachment. Note when I set it to have the right amount of space at the top/right the derailleur arm is touching the chainwheel. On my other bikes the bit on the left is angled up, away from the chainwheel and the top/right is the closest part.

Any idea what I have done wrong and how to fix?

It could be slightly out as regards being parallel with the chainring, try rotating by moving the lower part towards the wheel

It's broken. Buy a new bike.

Wait a minute, which plane are we talking about here? When you say angle to the chainwheel you mean the angle it makes with the centreline of the bike from front to back?

That photo of the "standard derailleur" isn't really side on so I'm not sure what you mean.

If it is just the height adjustment you are checking, the angle it makes to the teeth should be fixed by the clamp and the height just has to be 1-2mm of clearance.

I am wondering now if it is just the frame and the fact that all my other bikes have 50T big rings, that it looks funny to me...

EDIT: I checked old photos of how I had the bike before I switched to the compact. It is exactly the same, there is nothing wrong, I just have to stick the derailleur up another mm or so. Thank you all for your help and kind words while I had another mechanical brain fart.
