Hey spurs, I could be wrong but I'm nearly positive there's a cat shelter in Laois where you'd be able to rescue a kitten and normally they only ask for a small donation. Maybe try googling it or other shelters? Alternatively theres the LSPCA site here http://www.freewebs.com/lspca/

You could also try posting here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=240 in the animals and pets forum as I'm sure you'd get a lot more responses.

Neighbours of mine's cat had kittens about 8 months ago and I THINK they brough them up to one of the petshops in Portlaoise town to surrender them. Not sure if the shop charged for them though. Again I could be wrong but I've a feeling it was the petshop in the alley beside abrakebabra.

    Hope you get sorted

    **EDIT***

Just did a quick google there and found these old pages from the Laois Nationalist. Granted they're from early 2003 but it does say in them that "the cat shelter in Mountrath managed by Dymphna Fitzpatrick caters for up to 70 cats at one time" and the phone no. is 087-2133858 so maybe try calling that.

Here's the link to the articles

In Portlaoise, I know Petmania, Dunnes and Tesco have noticeboards where sometimes people have posted pets looking for a good home. Also, Pet Connection does have notices in the door from time to time.

Local vets usually have kittens looking for a home.
