Hi all. I got snapped allegedly doing well over the speed limit in a 60 zone.

    Challenged it by

    1. phoned the crowd who do the photos (no. is on the ticket)
    2. getting the photo posted to me
    3. phoning the superintendent of the area I was flashed in (5 phone calls until finally garda got the right station)
    4. writing to him and sending him the photo

The photo is of the back of my car in black and white and all the rest of the photo is an articulated lorry.

2 days ago I got a letter from the super telling me they would NOT be taking this any further. The matter was closed.

These fines state quite clearly that you cannot challenge the equipment.

Should there not be two photos such that if multiple vehicles are in the shot, their relative positions in the two photos demonstrates which was going fastest?

No, they only had a single photo, and it was a single carriageway A road, truck was going other way.

On what grounds did you "challenge" the offence?

That the camera could have reflected off the truck and show a false reading.

So if anyone has been snapped get the photo, if there is another vehicle going the opposite direction then contact the super of the issuing station.

Saved me €80 and 2 points.:)

I remember loveducatti2 posting about a very similar situation a while back. Here's his photo with the lorry. But he was in a 50 zone...

Does the Gatso not know whether its taking a pic of a car coming towards it or going away from it?

It just takes a photo, but they have been proven to be triggered by different things such as light reflection and birds. There is a famous bird one online if you search.

So if you have been snapped ... get the photo,

if there is another vehicle going the opposite direction then contact the super of the issuing station.
    no fine no points.

Of course, if you were speeding at the time, take it like a grown-up and take the penalty. The advise above is only if you've been unfairly caught.

Discussion of methods of "law dodging" are against the charter.

    Thread re-opened.

It's been pointed out to me that the thread hasn't actually discussed or promoted "illegal" activity.

    Please behave :D.
