Should one go running after having alcohol earlier in the day

Had a glass of wine in work at lunch as part a christmas dinner type thing. Wasnt planning on running this evening but now it looks like I'll be out of work at 5.30 today which free's up time for a run. Is it sensible to go running 5 hours after drinking wine?

Tried googling this question but couldnt find anything! :D

You should be OK after just one glass - it'll be well out of your system

Let's assume that a typical lunchtime glass of wine could have up to 3 units of alcohol.

At the usual rate for metabolising alcohol of 1 unit per hour, your system should be completely free of alcohol after 5 hours.

I once went running at about 8:30 in the morning after my friends 21st. I've lived to tell the tale.

I once did a ten miler about an hour after 3 or 4 pints. Ran well but felt terrible the next day.

Beer mile..... need i say more

though in fairness good point one should not run with any alcohol in system as has adverse effects regarding bloods PH levels and as such rules of driving apply hear 1 hour for every unit as a rule of thumb

Here is my experience with my fitness routine and alcohol. I'm a firm believer in the "never skip a workout day" rule, and I didn't want to let an afternoon drink (or a few!) ruin my routine.

    What I drank:
    - Two pints of beer
    - One shot of Sambuca

    Time of drinks:
    - 1pm-4:30pm

I waited until 11:30pm to go for a 30 minute run. I felt as though approx 90% of the alcohol was out of my system. I was able to get through the whole run, but my strength was lessened as compared to normal run. That perseverance we are all used to just wasn't there.

The next day, at 1pm I did strength training. This day was more body-weight based exercises like pull-ups and push-ups. My strength levels were diminished just like my run from the previous night. However, I was still able to push through and even add a few more reps to my sets.

So my advice would be to wait at least 6 hours after a drinking to do any exercise. However, after how it made me feel during my training, I don't think alcohol will be a big part of my partying any longer. Have to keep the overall goal in mind!:D

Its not actually a response just for you. This is still relevant to people today, which is why I initially looked it up and found this board. Thanks for the sarcasm though. This is about sharing experiences

There used to be an annual closed event though that has since gone so AFAIK there are none in Ireland anymore which a pity usually great season ender/off season laugh
