Hi, I have downloaded reaper and bought a new audio interface and I am looking to start messing around recording some loops. Not looking to make any full tracks as of yet but just want to use it to aid with writing some stuff. I have no idea where to start though with reaper as I have never used any production software before. Anyway am hoping to educate myself over the next few months so can anybody recommend where I should start. I was looking for some tutorials on youtube but they seem a bit advanced. Oh and also, if I connect a synthesizer through the interface and on to Reaper, can I use the sounds off the synth along with reaper's built in sounds?
    Thanks

The Dance Music forum might be better, because you're asking about composing rather than recording.

The books by Paul White of Sound on Sound are good. "Basic MIDI" "Basic Digital Audio" etc. Check Amazon. From the Reaper website you can access their Wiki etc.

Do you have a MIDI interface? What synth is it?

you can only use the built in sounds if you either

1/ have the synth as a vst plugin ( midi ) - ie software that comes with the synth .

    or

2/ record the synths audio outs as line ins ( not midi )

i use reaper and its great , super fast and low memory / cpu .

    There's a few tutorials on youtube.com
Not sure how good they are.

Reaper is a savage DAW, I use it as my main one for recording/mixing.

The best advice i can give you with regards to composing is to learn how to use the ReWire plug.

Look up tutorials on how to use this with things like reason and loads of other stuff.
