Cheapest Insurance Company??

Hey guys, I left Quinn last year after 5 years because a friend of mine was working in Axa and got me a cheaper (not by a lot but still cheaper!) quote through their friends and family thingy. My premium was about €670 last year and is up at the end of the week, if I want to go with Axa again it's just over €900.
I'm thinking that's a bit steep and I should be able to get better than that, thing is I haven't rang around looking for a quote in 6 years and would have no idea which company would be the cheapest these days so any help on that would be much appreciated!
27year old male in Dublin, full licence, 2points, 6years no claims on a 02 Lexus IS200 Exec
Thanks in advance for your help!!

It depends entirely on the car/driver. Ring around every ins co and a good selection of brokers.

Yes, it's almost the thing you need to spend a day doing, as the savings can be quite significant.

My husband and I were initially quoted €650 for a renewal with our existing (at the time) insurance company. A bit of looking around got this down to €320, and at the time I was on a learner permit too.

    123.ie or nononsense.ie or quinn...

123.ie are very good price wise. best by far iv encountered. 50% cheaper than hibernian for me! :)

I checked a bunch of websites for golf Gti insurance last night, and 123.ie for fully comp seemed to be the cheapest; thats from just 30mins searching mind. I could probably do better.

also, call the internet guys when you see the quote you want, they can take €10-20 off once they run through and confirm the details; the web price has a small risk loading for those who don't put in correct details

cheapest i found this time last year was 650 from the AA (well they were the cheapest that would insure me due to being uninsured for about 2 years (in australia))

looked around a bit this year and they are the cheapest i could find.

    Britton seems good
    TP only €495.27
    TP&theft €517.88
    Full comp €561.73

I'm with Quinn now and pay €579.37 for TP&theft

    www.jlt.ie

They were the best for me

Thanks for all the replies, I rang around a couple there, 123.ie were €621 but the cheapest was with nononsense and that was €472 and I can drive other cars third party so I'm fairly happy with that, would have been €447 if I didn't get third party on other cars which is over 50% cheaper than who I was with last year - Axa, madness.... so big thanks to Idbatterim ;)

@Max - I didn't try Britton, they're normally the best for performance cars is that right? Chap I worked with a few years ago had a STi and they were by far the cheapest he said

Like I said earlier, it all depends on the car/driver. Hibernian were cheapest for me this year, next year it might be different.

I've always found bestquote.ie to be really competitive and have went with one of the companies behind this site for the last 3/4 years. However, the OH had an accident this year and as she is named on my policy RSA (thru Bestquote) would not take me again. Ended up going with 123 but lost comprehensive driving of other cars, higher excess, and had to pay over €200 more.

Its important to check the fine print, breakdown assist, full NCB protection, and a low excess are a must for me. Factor these in when weighing up the different quotes.

Ofcourse thats true. I was just fuming with the joke of a renewal quote they offered me. They wanted €950 compared with Britton who only wanted €350 fully comp. :)

The question you ask is not one that can be answered with one correct answer D Audio Tripper. It all depends on your age, gender, car, no claims bonus, claims and other circumstances. I often had people saying to me you should try such and such a company next renewal time John as my insurance is only costing me X with them. Then when I try such company the quote would be very high or they would not quote me at all. As such I don't think its a question that can be answered on a whim.

Best thing to probably do and as a few others have suggested also is pick up the phone and ring as many as possible and get quotes of the internet also. Also try bricks and mortar brokers in your local town. Last time round for me I was pleasantly surprised to be quoted over 100 Euro less with a local broker for a higher level of cover than if I renewed with my then current Insurance company.

If you decide to use Britton and want to pay by direct debit, like me, then understand that Britton takes out a loan in your name with Premium Credit, a Bank of America company. This means you're actually paying PC, which paid Britton in full at the start of the contract. The contract for PC is in the middle the pack of Britton papers and you're not advised that you'll be shipped off to a loaning company.

Also note that they start charging you before you've signed anything if you provide credit card details, like I did.
I set my cover to start on 31th of Dec but rang them on the 5th cancelling my policy that I had not signed yet (I'm still covered by my old insurer).
This cost me 50 Euro for one weeks cover plus a handling fee I assume must be about 40 Euro.

In essence, if you want to use Britton make sure you get the details off them first, I didn't and it cost me 50 Euro for nothing.

i'm currently with nononsense, but will be getting a focus van soon (not for commercial use). nononsense don't insure vans - any recommendations? i got a quote off quinn direct but it was a bit higher than i expected.

    thanks,

Shop around by phone and internet. If you get a lower quote than before, ring your current insurer and they often match or better that quote. I find it infuriating that your current insurer doesnt give you the same conditions as the do to NEW customers. So much for loyalty!
